Biggest Annoyance with S5

ok.. for those interested.. i came from HTC.. been with HTC for long time.. got the Galaxy S5

Gripes:
1. Touchwiz, you cant modify. like, size of icons, grid size in the app drawer, app drawer icon on the home screen is on the right, wish it was in the center, and could put 2 apps on each side. (fix with nova launcher)
2. Folder icon, on main screen, is hideous.. like the disk, and 3d looking icon (fix with nova launcher)
3. not a huge fan of the color scheme, off blue, and green in some of the apps.
4. stock messaging app, nice, but wish i could go with a black theme. (new messaging app, ie handcent)
5. dialer is rediculous. also, when typing in someones name to call them, when i click their picture.. it doesnt automatically call, i have to click the picture, then click the green phone icon.

Now, i know.. most of these gripes, are fixed with addons.. or other apps.. which is cool.. one thing.. Nova Launcher is awesome.. and very good overlay to touchwiz.. however.. you lose the hi google, and also the s voice voice commands from the home screen.

Plus's
1. much nicer screen
2. very fluid
3. phone is much friendlier with launchers, than Sense was.
4. very good stock apps, for working out.. and others.

Most if not everything.. is it just takes getting used to.. similar to anything for that matter.. very happy.

edit...
KK launcher, just like nova, but has the ok google option from the google now screen.

I never had a dialer that dialed out when the contact was first brought up.
not sure I would enjoy that either, because I often bring up the contact to Send a Message, not a phone call.

TouchWiz, I agree with you.

I tried KKlauncher which is highly prized by some guys on the ADA Developers forum, they say it is better than Nova.

Tried KKlauncher and lost some of the 'neat things' TouchWiz will do, went back to TouchWiz.... but I was a neophyte with 3 whole days experience with the S5.

Nova launcher, no experience there.

i think your misunderstanding..

when i go to the dialer, i am calling someone.. not texting.. on my HTC, i would start by typing the persons name, lets say.. bobby.. i would type 262, and a list of names would show up.. i could then click his name.. and it dialed him.

on this phone.. i do the same.. his name pops up.. i have to click his name.. his number populates in the really huge number screen.. then click the green call button on the bottom to make the call..

i will give KK launcher a try.. i am really happy with how touchwiz works with launcher seamlessly..

That is the Standard method of Android systems since I first used them years ago.... I have never seen one of my Android phones dial a contact just by tapping the name out of the list as you bring it up. I also bring up a list of users.

I type "MIK" and a whole slew of Mike contacts come up, I tap one of those names and the dialer screen comes up.... but to dial that contact you must initiate the Dialing function.... this is exactly where I also Send a Message from.

I would like to play with KK launcher a lot more, but it is going to have to be on a phone that I do not use everyday. My S5 is tuned perfectly and it is going to stay that way.

EDIT on 5/21/2014
On the Samsung S5, if you select a contact from the "Favorites List" it will immediately Auto Dial that contact.

Yes, regarding the contact function, it would be nice in a future release to possibly enable that option "for one click dialing" once you type out and select the contact. much like defaults for which app is used, it would be awesome within certain apps to set a default function.

Can't wait to try mymail, and see how it works. Dont have phone in front of me (at work), but wondering, if I had set up my gmail app, how do i stop notifications from that, or do I just delete that app and disable the stock email app?

On the calling, you can select the function to call the current contact when lifting the phone to your ear. I use it, it works.

For disabling gmail notifications. Go into full settings (single finger swipe, select cogwheel at top), go down to application manager (almost at the bottom), select Gmail, and uncheck the notification box.

Okay, will try that.

For the email, I think what I mean is to just disable it, so it's not downloading email from the server, and taking up space, I already have the notifications off, but if I click on the app, the emails are there.

Is there any reason not to just uninstall the app? I personally like the native gmail app, but if you're going with something else, just take it off the phone.

I couldn't remember if I downloaded it, or if it was stock. can't check my phone right now, but if that's the case, then yeah, probably... the simple fix should be the first I try... lol
I prefer the stock email app to the gmail app, I find something about the big block icons for emails bothersome, a personal preference issue, I know.
Plus, unless I am missing something, I don't know how to add more than one account to the gmail app, like i can with the stock email app.

What's your biggest annoyance with the S5
I've read all that has been written about the good for both the M8 and S5 and I'm undecided.
I'm hoping since I can't decide base on the good features perhaps the bad will help....

You should post this on the M8 forum:
Biggest Annoyance with M8

Then compare.

Every phone will have things people will complain about, there is no such thing as a perfect phone ;)
...even though the S5 comes close. I'm real happy with it.
