Camera: why oh why???

When I take a photo with my Galaxy S4, sometimes the picture ends up in a sub-folder called "Camera" and sometimes in "My Photos" and now I seem to have TWO "Camera" sub-folders, all of which show up when I access the "Gallery" app. This happens even when I'm taking several photos in a row, within a few minutes of each other, and I do nothing different for each one! So what determines where the camera saves the photos??? And more importantly, how do I fix it?

There should be only 1 DCIM folder and in it there should be a Camera folder. Are you sure pics saved in "My Photos" are being taken with the same app?

As far as why you see them all when you use Gallery, the Media Scan detects all photos on the phone (internal and eternal) and that's what Gallery shows.

I have a DCIM folder on my phone ("Device Storage") and another on my SD card. As for the app I use, it's just the native "Camera" on my phone. I have Instagram but never use it. That's all. I still can't understand why... I can be taking three or four photos all together, within seconds of each other, tapping the same Camera button, but some go one place, others go another.

Just to make sure. ........ your taking single shots, not the burst shots? Cause single shots can load to the SD card, but burst shots go to the phones storage instead. No matter what settings you use, burst shots will always go to the phones storage.

This could be an explanation. I didn't notice that I had it set to burst shots, but I've changed it now, so maybe it will work as I expected. I wonder what the reasoning is behind all that... why should burst shots go somewhere other than single shots? Seems silly but I think you've definitely described my predicament. Thanks.

Anyone can correct me of I'm not correct, but if I'm not mistaken. ......the developers assumed that SD cards can not support such a large amount of data to be store fast enough for the users pleasure with out there being a long delay for your next photo to be taken. So they set it to store burst shots to the phones storage.

With burst mode, you have a lot of pics all going to storage very quickly. Internal Storage is a known variable, the devs know what kind of write speeds to anticipate with internal storage. External Storage, on the other hand, is an unknown. You can have a Class 10 or a Class 2 card and the Class 2 card would be much slower than the Class 10. This is the reason burst mode would be directed to internal memory.
