Honestly, it doesn't get any easier than using the links Fab and Slick put up for the 2.1 SBF Custom Recovery. And just a word of support to those who give the "tough love" responses - like many of the folks on here who were hesitant to root, or do anything to their phones out of fear of ruining them, the one thing I appreciated was the sheer amount of information available on this site, as well as on a number of other sites. While back on stock 2.0.1, I must have spent at least 6 weeks reading up on every rooting thread I could find; reading up on the commands, the tools, whatever I could get my hands on to make me more comfortable with the process. Guys like UBR, Fab, CRP, Slick, (the list goes on!) etc are the ones who encouraged me to get comfortable (not personally per say) with these processes and methods FIRST before posting endless questions and rants. Because of their constant contributions to this site, I was able to not only successfully root my Droid while on 2.0.1 and overclock it, but was able to troubleshoot nearly ANY issue that came up - from ADB commands not working, to boot loops, methods flat out not working, etc., I had the confidence to keep at it because I WANTED to get the most out of MY phone; any issue I encountered was merely a hiccup in the process.
Even before the 2.1 SBF Recovery file got stickied here, I was able to track it down just searching on google (found it on droidmod) after force updating to the 2.1 OTA.
I can safely say that I am ridiculously confident in my ability to hack my phone (currently running Fab's awesome rom!) because of the sheer wealth of information that was available to me. And the reason this information was worthwhile was because I put in the TIME to understand it all, as best as I could anyway.
Sorry for the slightly long post, but I don't think the original guys at this site (and so many others) get their due respect. So for me personally, thanks a bunch to all of you more seasoned Android folks for giving me the joy that comes from getting the most out of your phone!
