Root How to root Droid 2.1 easily?

Okay, I just went to the page the op posted showing how to root 2.1 "easily" and not one person on there replied saying they had success. Literally each and every reply was a person complaining of errors and those instructions dont look clear/simple to me at all. Like I said, what could be easier than installing SPRecovery with RSD?

Seriously, it doesn't get much easier than this ESPECIALLY if yyou watch the video embeded within that thread (just make sure to download RSD AND the drivers along with the SBF).

C'mon folks, do you want someone to chew your gum for you too?

Between these two threads...

...and this video..

YouTube - Flashing SPRecovery SBF File to a Motorola Droid

..."rooting" 2.1 is easier than rooting 2.0.1 ever was and one should have MORE than enough info to obtain root and custom roms on their Droid. It's easier then 1st grade math.

My "do you want someone to chew your gum for you" is based on my ASSUMPTION (yeah, I know) that there are tons of people hesitant to root 2.1 because they are waiting for something like DMupdater to do it for them. Also, I ASSUMED that many of those people probably clicked on this thread hoping there was a DMupdater like way to automatically root 2.1. My "gum" comment was directed at them. Don't get me wrong, there is absolutely nothing wrong with wanting something the easy way but the method above is as easy as it gets so why sit around waiting for something "easier" (which may never come).

But, I do understand that it can be daunting/scary for those of you who have zero knowledge on all of this stuff. RSD light, SBF, SPRecovery...all of those terms can easily scare a person off if they bought their phone with the intention of being an "end-user" with little to no technological experience (which is what I was when I first got my Droid).

Well since you seem to have the capacity to comprehend the stress that end users are experiencing before rooting for the first time (...kudos to you for that) then you should also see how denigrating people by basically saying, "Here ya go, stupid." is more apt to increase their anxiety rather than ease their stress.
Members that respond with the attitude you demonstrated really piss me off because there's simply no reason for anyone to be made to feel stupid here. You have absolutely no idea who you're dialogging with.
The person you denigrate might be a nurse or doctor or first responder that knows exactly how to keep you from paralysis or death after that nasty car wreck you were just pulled from.
Be pretty funny if they looked down at you writhing in pain on the bloodied pavement whining for help and said, "What? Ya want me to chew yer gum for ya, too?"

-Just sayin'.

Okay, Kitty we get your shtick. You're the angry guy. Or, more accurately, you're the protector and savior of noobs who will stand up against bullies like me and you will do so in the most abrasive, brazen way possible. Enough already. You do it in damn-near every post and it's getting trite, repetitive, even, dare I say, hackneyed. Make no mistake about it, I think it's very commendable to defend those who are under undue attack from antagonizers but was what I said that serious? Should

"c'mon guys, do you want someone to chew your gum for you too"

have really garnered such a response from you? Of course not. But then again, if you portray the "bad-ass" image on a message board and you're looking to pick fights with folks over the tiniest little thing to maintain said image, then, sure, it makes sense that you reacted the way you did.

Don't get me wrong, I HATE it when folks look down on others, especially in a sarcastic of condescending manner. However, my statement was essentially how unbelievably easy using RSD and the SBF are. That's it. It was my ham-handed way of trying to reassure hesitant noobs that the process was easy as pie but maybe I could have said it in a better way. Again, the quote in question from myself hardly exemplifies an instance of denigration (must be the word of the day) so back the **** up and stay "pissed", if you must.

Out of respect for this Board, I will bow out and I will not respond to any more of your comments. Go ahead, let me have it, tough guy.

Kind Regards,

Slick

Honestly, it doesn't get any easier than using the links Fab and Slick put up for the 2.1 SBF Custom Recovery. And just a word of support to those who give the "tough love" responses - like many of the folks on here who were hesitant to root, or do anything to their phones out of fear of ruining them, the one thing I appreciated was the sheer amount of information available on this site, as well as on a number of other sites. While back on stock 2.0.1, I must have spent at least 6 weeks reading up on every rooting thread I could find; reading up on the commands, the tools, whatever I could get my hands on to make me more comfortable with the process. Guys like UBR, Fab, CRP, Slick, (the list goes on!) etc are the ones who encouraged me to get comfortable (not personally per say) with these processes and methods FIRST before posting endless questions and rants. Because of their constant contributions to this site, I was able to not only successfully root my Droid while on 2.0.1 and overclock it, but was able to troubleshoot nearly ANY issue that came up - from ADB commands not working, to boot loops, methods flat out not working, etc., I had the confidence to keep at it because I WANTED to get the most out of MY phone; any issue I encountered was merely a hiccup in the process.

Even before the 2.1 SBF Recovery file got stickied here, I was able to track it down just searching on google (found it on droidmod) after force updating to the 2.1 OTA.

I can safely say that I am ridiculously confident in my ability to hack my phone (currently running Fab's awesome rom!) because of the sheer wealth of information that was available to me. And the reason this information was worthwhile was because I put in the TIME to understand it all, as best as I could anyway.

Sorry for the slightly long post, but I don't think the original guys at this site (and so many others) get their due respect. So for me personally, thanks a bunch to all of you more seasoned Android folks for giving me the joy that comes from getting the most out of your phone!

Thanks for that post (@ne0lyfeism). That was really cool. I must agree that this forum is full of extremely helpful folks and most of what I know (I was once a noob too) came from here. Despite what this thread implies, I do like PsychoKitty. He seems like a cool cat (no pun) that always "keeps it real", which is a very admirable character trait, for sure. I apologize to any "end-users" or "noobs" I may have offended with my comment. I surely did not mean to come across as condescending or sarcastic and I also apologize for subjecting you guys to the asinine banter of Psycho and myself. This forum is not about that and it really was uncalled for.

Normally, I wouldn't be reconciling in such a forthright, mature manner (as I am now) but I think this will be my last post and my last time viewing these forums. And it is not b/c of the events that took place in this thread. It is because I am a writer and I have a July 15th deadline to have a final draft manuscript complete and I'm waaaaaaaaaaay behind. I have been spending FAR too much time watching T.V. and surfing the web and it is time for me to LOG OFF. Living by myself, it is hard as shit to not watch T.V. OR surf the web because it gets eerily, dreadfuly, depressingly quiet but at this stage in the game, I have no choice. It looks like I will be running my current rom until after I'm done with my book (I can't believe I'm committing to one rom for three months...scary/crazy). If anyone needs to contact me, shoot me a PM and I'll holler back AFTER July 15th. PEACE!!! It's been real, folks!!!

hey everyone I've been searching for awhile and i cant find anything that already covers it, but I'm trying to figure out if there is any failsafe to revert back to if you were to mess up.

also the biggest reason i want to root my droid as of yet is for tethering if i were to root my droid for the sole purpose of tethering would it change the way the droid looks, operates etc.

if there is a better place for this post im sorry and if you would please redirect me

thanks in advance

For users like me (running stock 2.1, no MS Windows machines in the house), there does not seem to be an answer, since "RSD Lite" (required to roll back to 2.0.1) is Windows only. I keep searching for a way to root w/o Windows, but nothing so far.

It's a bit simpler with this http://androidforums.com/all-things-root-droid/63010-how-install-sprecovery-unrooted-2-1-ota.html but you still need RSD Lite.

Have you considered downloading a cut down version of windows and just making a small virtual machine specifically for this? It's a pain in the ass but still easier than Boot Camp.

Edit: Hmm. I just assumed you would be in OSX. I'm guessing Linux based on your username. I know nothing about Linux, will it run an x86 virtual machine?
