Car dock and Gps question

Yes! I went to a big red store around the corner from me and besides deciding if I ever need to go to one, I will go to this one now and not the one in Chapel Hill I also picked up the Car dock. Installation onto my Dash was simple! I mean I cannot get over how fast it was, I did it right there in the parking lot!

Now I know most regular gps units if you dont have an address entered in it will still follow you as you go.. (Show your car on the map) Does the Google nav do this somehow and I
just haven't found it out yet? To be honest Ive only used it but one time because my battery was getting low.. (I really should look into a car charger now I suppose but I didn't think I would want one when I got the dock, I guess I'll go back to the store again today to get one, but is it possible for the nav to do what I want? Because I don't always need the turn by turn but it would be cool to still have it follow me on the map.

Oh and I should also mention I'm finding the hard keyboard easier to use.. This is now, day 4 of me owning a droid. I must say, I think for once I've found a device I can be happy with for a long time..No trading this bad boy!

I can't answer your map question, but regarding your car charger.... If you got the OEM Motorola Car Dock suction cup mount, you should have gotten a car charger with it. If you didn't, there's something wrong with your box you got for the car mount.

Hmm.. I got it from the Verizon store so I would imagine its OEM.. but I didnt see a car charger. In any case, I have one now.. I love my discount I get on everything from them.. I'll probably be buying my headset there as well. I have a stereo bt but I want just a single one for calls.. The two earpeices are a bit overkill when I just want to make a phone call.

In order to get 3D moving map like a standalone gps, all you do is enter a location for directions to a place that is on the way out of you neighborhood, apartment complex, etc. Once you've reached it, the 3d navigation will still be active if you press the blue arrow. However, there will be a status bar at the top that takes up some screen space.

This is the only way to get it now, but I imagine Google is working on it.

There are two different car dock packages, the one verizon sells is without the charger, the one other places have is $10 and has the car charger, the dock itsself is the same. I bought the charger one from best buy.
I think Eugene meant to say $10 more, but I went with the charger-less version using an online coupon from Verizon to pick up the dock for $20, then picked up the Motorola charger for $1 on monoprice.com :D

Yea, sorry, $10 more. Its not worth it though, when I have mine in the dock and am using the GPS and mapping or navigation as well as streaming music it shows charging but when I unplug the battery is lower than where it started. So the one that comes with the dock isn't powerful enough to keep up with it.

There is no 3d follow me map in Google Nav. In Maps you can have a 2D follow me map if you hit My Location (mentioned above). You can also use the work-around derek533 posted. However, if you really want the feature you'll need to look into another GPS nav app that has that feature.
