Does not restart after alternate soft reset

Droid Maxx with KitKat 19.6.3. When I do the alternate reset (volume down and power button) my Maxx used to restart automatically. Now it won't. It just sits there on a blank screen, like it's bricked, until it eventually allows me to power it up manually....usually after 3-5 very tense minutes. Any suggestions?

Not knowing what is meant by Soft Reset ... I assume you want to boot into recovery ...

Hold Volume Down for 10 seconds.
Then while still holding it down hold Power for 5 seconds,
Release them both.

Regardless of which reset method I use (volume down and power; volume up and power; or simply power for 7-10 seconds) my phone used to cycle off and then power up automatically. Now I have to wait 3-5 minutes before I can turn it back on, and that has to be initiated manually. The 3-5 minute delay used to scare me, because my phone was totally unresponsive during that time and I thought it had bricked. I now realize that it WILL eventually respond, so I am not as concerned. I see the manual states, turn the phone back on manually, IF necessary. I guess I can live with that. Thanks

Why are you doing this instead of just a power off/power on? I did it a couple of times for this thread. Other than that I never do it ... don't need to. Maybe you have a problem that needs investigating?

The term "soft reset" is quite ambiguous and keeps changing from model to model. I don't see it defined for the Droid Maxx.

I have only had to long-press power once when the phone was unresponsive, and it did not power up on its own.

I'll suggest this: I'd back up your files, videos and photos, and do a factory reset. If you still have problems after that, it might be time for a warranty replacement.

I will just turn it off and back on from now on. I guess doing the "alternate reset", as Motorola calls it, is just a carry over in my mind from the old "battery pull" days, where it was recommended to do periodically to clear any phantom settings, etc....much like I turn off my PC occasionally for the same reason. Once again, the world has moved along without consulting me

It is more productive to periodically clear the data cache partition where temporary data is stored. It can become contaminated over time and is one of the primary causes of perceived slow down of older phones.

Many people live with the slower phone ... clear the data cache partition and report that it is performing like it just came out of the bx.

Yes, Thom, I think it was you that posted how to do the "wipe cache." Anyway, I saved the post and will do that procedure in the future.

Long press power for about 15 seconds. That should shut it down.

If that's not it, plug it in. Maybe the battery is discharged.
