pandora and lock screen

So, I love my INC. I love Pandora. However, when driving, I would like to play pandora and keep the screen lit. That way, if I decide to change the song, I don't have to fumble with my screen lock. It's tough to do while driving 80 mph on the turnpike. Anybody else notice this and/or have a fix?

Thanks in advance!

Are you connected to a charger? You can go to settings, applications, development, and check the 'stay awake' while charging to keep the screen from sleeping.

*The actual path to this setting may vary, since the Inc. runs Sense UI. The directions I gave were for stock Android.

Nope, it's the same path on the Incredible w/ Sense UI. Thanks for this! Good to know.

Maybe you can help me.... This is my first smartphone so maybe I am missing something. I downloaded Pandora and it works fine. But I wanted to use it in the car and everytime I connect an aux cable the phone recognizes it as a wired headset mic. And if Pandora is running it freaks out, skips forward repeatedly until the skips are maxed out and eventually stops playing. And it also lauches Voice Dialer and then that fails since there really is no mic plugged in. Help please! Pandora in the car was a big selling point IMO!

Yikes! Thats a bit strange. I didn't have any problems with my pandora d/l. It seems to be working just fine in my car (via aux cable). Have you been able to use other mp3 players through the same aux cable? What about trying slacker radio (not necessarily as an alternative to Pandora, but only to check if it works)? Also, does pandora seem to play w/o issues via the phone speaker?

Pandora plays fine through the phone speaker. And I get the same issues with the standard music player... Does your phone show an icon on the top bar when the cable is connected? (like headphones, headset with mic, etc)

I think it might be the cable... I have tried 2. But I found some info on some cables are grounded and some are not. What type of cable are you using?

Which icon are you getting? regular headphones? Or microphone headset? Its not the cars (tried Caddy CTS and Chevy Cobalt with stock stereos), because just plugging the cable into the phone and not plugging in the other end yields the same result. I launched the music player, plugged in my bad cable, and within seconds the track started skipping ahead and fast forwarding on its own (I had to do this visually because the sound was piping thru the cord, but you can see the tracks skipping ahead on the timer and the flipping of albums).

so 2 different car stereos with the same result?! Then it's either the cable or the phone. try a different cable. Then maybe delete pandora and reinstall it. Try pulling the battery out of the phone too. After that, I'm out of ideas. Hope one of those work for you b/c I would die w/o pandora in my car. Let me know what happens.

FYI - i had the same issue - phone freaked out when connected to the audio cable. Pandora skipping, voice dialer dialing, etc etc.

Turns out - the cheap _$$ radio shack cable i used was just that - CHEAP. improper shielding probably...

Anyway - i sprung a few more bucks and bought a gigaware cable - and problem solved.

Just buy a better cable. Keep your receipt and try it out in the store or in the parking lot.

Pandora in the car is sooooooooooo nice!

to keep your screen on while playing pandora, download "Keep Screen" from the market. you can pick and choose which apps you want to keep the screen on for. this was the first app i downloaded on my Incredible. works great.

Do you turn it on and off as you are using pandora or do you always having it running in the background?

NM: just tested it out for myself. I use Advanced Task Killer and that will stop Keep Screen each time. Its a pain in the ass to have to open one app, start it up, then open pandora. Looks like I will be charging it in the car AT ALL TIMES!!!

it runs in the background. when the app starts it keeps the screen on. when the app is no longer visible (on the screen), the screen timeout goes back to your default setting. it works very nicely.

i use it for all of my music apps and for the web browser.

when i had my droid i paid $2.99 for "Dock Awake" which automatically kept the screen on when the phone was docked. Keep Screen works just as well for me on the Incredible.

how about just not killing it all the time? can't you set ATK to ignore selected apps?

I been listening to pandora and as I find a song I like. Then I go to MP3 download app and download it for free. Then add it to my playlist on the default music player. I have about 25 mp3's that I have downloaded so far. Nice thing about the default music player is you can control it from the lock screen.
