Tab S vs. iPad Air

Hello,

I'm looking into buying a Galaxy Tab S and I'm wondering if this is finally the tablet that is better than the iPad Air. I know I definitely prefer Android over IOS, but as a whole, is the Tab S as good as, if not better than the iPad Air? I'm only asking because Apple has dominated the tablet market for so long and I want to make sure I get the best tablet available.

Thanks,

IMO, for tablets, iPad is the way to go.

Let me explain,

The iOS ecosystem allows for much greater speeds, apps for android tablets still isn't quite up to par, and the iPad will have more games, if I get a tablet, it'll pretty much just be for games... If this doesn't apply to you, omit the last point.

Don't get me wrong, android as an os is superior for me, but android tablets, not as much quuuiiite yet.

But if you just plain old don't like iOS, don't care much for the display, android tablets work just fine.

My plan is to stick to android phones.. Get as big of a display as I can on android phones cuz I feel its a waste to have two devices that pretty much do the same things lol

I do agree that there are more optimized apps for iPads, but for the rest, I think Android is easily on par. And as for the display, the Tab S actually has a better display than the Air, arguably the best on the market.

I appreciate the input!

I'm the same now, get as big as display as I can comfortably fit in my pocket LOL. My phone is my tablet. I used to have an actual tablet, but found much of the time I only used it for watching videos(pr0n) in bed, and that was it. And it always stayed at home. If i'm doing any serious work, I'll usually need a keyboard, so I might as well use my laptop, rather than a tablet with a separate keyboard.

Agreed. That's one of the main reasons I think I'm gonna get it.

The only thing I would mention as a negative for the Samsung tablets is the slower performance from the Wifi only versions using the Exynos SoC.

It's not horribly slow by any means but graphics performance is not as good as the LTE version using Snapdragon 800.

I'm not sure if this is something that will be noticed by the end user or not, of course if you don't play games it's an issue at all. :)

The processors do differ, but performance is almost identical.

CPU performance is about same but there is quite a difference when it come to graphics performance, if you believe graphics benchmarks Adreno 330 can be as much as twice as fast. :(

You would have thought Samsung would have gone with something more powerful for their own SoC and especially considering what Apple use.

Man, that stinks. Do you have a link to any benchmarks comparing them?

Why are people so concerned about resolution? Unless all you are going to do is watch videos on your tablet.

I love my galaxy note 8 because its a productivity tablet. IPad is nothing more than a giant iPhone and a waste of money.
Nothing compares to galaxy note when you want to eliminate paper and go paperless.
If you are a student why carry an iPad and a separate notebook? The galaxy note will let you take notes on a PDF eBook and instead of carrying multiple notebooks have everything in one place.

To add I loved all my android tablets nook color nexus 7 and galaxy note 8.

I am so sick and tired of hearing how great iPad is just because apple makes it.
Apple has stopped at nothing to try to get android banned and take away freedom of choice.

Just the freedom of sdcards custom roms and not being tied to apples eco system is enough for me.

Not to mention tons of android apps amazon appstore gives away.

Also the super amoled display on galaxy note and tab protablets are much better than iPad retina. Regardless any version of galaxy note has way more multitasking and productivity apps than any iPad. I want to see iPad split screen two apps. Have native stylus support. Allow photo clipping directly into texts. Or the writing to text recognition.
If you want toy get any iPad. If you want a serious productivity tool Galaxy note pro hands down.
If you don't need pen support I'd go with the tab S
It has all the same features minus the writing features.
