My phone has worked without a problem till last nite..I had a few texts and calls early eve with no issues at all then later on when i tried a text it kept giving me a 'message not sent' message??.At first i thought it was an Orange issue so did'nt worry too much but this am it's still the same??.
On doing a bit of investigating i have found i can no longer make calls either:thinking:.If i try it it doesnt even get too a dial tone it just beeps and returns to the initial call screen.
The phone is showing full signal strength??.When i go too call settings>additional settings it shows 'network or sim error'.
I have put my sim into another phone and it works fine and another sim that i know works into my Desire and have the same issues so it must be the handset:mad:.
What do you lot suggest??.If i do a factory reset will i loose all my photos etc from my memory card??,or could i just un-mount it and then reset???

HELP:mad:

I am on Orange.Don't think any settings could of been messed up as i never mess with them and anyway i was texting away without a problem one minute then getting the error message the next:thinking:It wasnt giving me an error message when i tried to make a call it just beeped and returned to the dialing screen without even getting a tone:thinking:.Lets just hope HTC can sort it out quick, missing it already:D

Virgin runs on the Tmobile network. Virgin is a virtual network, not a real one like O2, Voda etc.

So this should be fine.
I thought that might be the case - however there is no phone functions available even though the signal is showing high. What confused matters is that my daughter's Nokia is actually showing as connected to Virgin in the same location.

My son was texting when his malfunctioned last night - he wondered if it was related to updating Chomp SMS, but I can't beleive that would cause such a deep rooted problem. I'm even more reluctant to do a hard reset as it didn't help you - my feeling is this is related to the radio firmware/hardware. If the phone was rooted like my Hero I would just reflash the radio, but as this isn't possible I wonder if there is another way to reset just the radio?

Hi, I have had exactly the same problem too with my new HTC Sensation. I have been texting then all of a sudden will not let the text be sent. The phone displays good signal but when I try to call someone it simply waits 15secs, beeps and returns to home screen. I too went into call settings only to get the 'network or SIM error'.
I went into the three store and over 2days have had a brand new SIM card and brand new phone from them and now I AM STILL GETTING THE PROBLEM. I have read somewhere the IMEI could have been accidentally bared but don't really know what this means. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Will

Hi I have a similar problem with my Desire HD. Initially, switching the phone to and from Airplane mode solved the problem. But about two weeks ago, even that didnt have any effect. Basically, the phone shows full signal, however when I try to make a call, it waits for about 10 secs and then all I get is a beep and the call terminates. When this happens, all incoming calls go straight to voicemail and I am unable to send/receive text messages.

I have had my phone sent to HTC Warranty centre twice in the past two weeks and it was returned this evening with the same problem. I was told the motherboard was replaced the first time and even had to get a new SIM card to test before returning it to them. I am waiting to hear what they have to say tomorrow when I ring them up to give them a piece of my justifiably upset mind. However, in the meantime, if anyone has any suggestions as to what may be happening, please share on this forum. Thanks

the IMEI Number is a unique number to each device, if someone loses their phone or it's stolen, you give the operator this IMEI number and it will be barred from making any calls etc etc, but i don't know if it will still show full signal, I'd imagine not.

Bare with me, i ain't read through the whole thread.

Have you tried, Settings-Network- Automatic or try changing it to Manual? Does it connect to anything? Though with full signal sounds like it is..mm..
Is it set to 2g/3g Automatically or just 2g/3g?

Airplane mode would force the radio to be disabled, re-enabling it to connect to the correct network. usually the easiest fix.

Apps, well, this one can be awkward. There is nothing that can control your texts and calls is there? I think Juice Defender can control the 2G/3G network.. Actually, can you brows the internet using your normal phone connection? NOT WiFI.

If all else fails, factory reset, it sucks but sometimes it has to be done. Your memory card will not be touched.
the thing is though, if a factory reset does work, then it was a software issue , like a rogue app for example.
if not, then it's either hardware or the network providers fault.

( if this advice has been given before, apologies, like i said i didn't read through the thread )

Hi Recently I have got HTC M8 and Desire 816. After 2 days I had realized that I couldn't make any calls when I am accessing phone (both the phones) from my Home but data and SMS are working . I was checking with service provider (Airtel ) and HTC customer care.

Airtel told me that I am facing problem as I have cut the regular sim to nano hence the problem. so, Immediatly I have got the new SIM and inserted but the problem still continues. I have no idea about the problem because either service provider or customer care are not providing proper solution.

Later, When I was doing R&D on this problem found that, I am able to make/receive calls when Wifi is disabled and mobile data is enabled. its not working when you switch off wifi and mobile data or switch on wifi and mobile data together.

Seriously thinking that I had taken the wrong decision of moved to HTC from samsung.

Can some one give me any solution...

You have almost certainly damaged the SIM reader by using the cut down sim.

Wifi and bluetooth have their own aerial so it's a red herring.

As the damage will be evident of a short circuit on the SIM reader, HTC will almost certainly charge you to repair your phone

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. Some older SIM cannot be cut down without causing damage to the phone, so best advice is not to try.

So what _is_ the common factor between the 2 handsets? This is something I've never heard of before, but is happening with both phones, so it's something specific to your setup or usage.

Are you using the phone to make calls, or some voice over IP app? Because it doesn't sound like the phone service to me, but like you are doing something that requires mobile data. If WiFi connects that replaces the mobile data connection, so if you had some strange setup that only works via mobile data that would fit the symptoms. But regular phone calls don't need data at all, which is why I think there's something detail we're missing.

You didn't answer the question though: are you using the standard dialer and phone service for calls, or something else (Google Voice or some other voice app)? Because plain telephony works with 2G or 3G and no data enabled, so requiring 3G data doesn't sound like what most people mean by "phone calls".

P.S. This forum is for the original Desire (A8181 Bravo), released in 2010, rather than your phone which is a completely different model. That's why there aren't many replies here - few people still have the original Desire, so not many visit this section (I've been using a One M7 for a year myself).
