Help Is there a way to stop apps on start up?

There seems to be a lot of useless stuff opening on startup, not all "apps" necessarily... is there a way to stop this stuff from starting? I love the phone but it blows my mind that there are so many apps that you can't even quit without dl'ing a task killer. Am I missing something?

I keep having the same apps restart themselves on my Droid, even with Advanced Task Manager installed and running. EVERY time I look at it, Gallery, MP3 Store, Car Home, Alarm Clock, Browser, and Settings are running. I kill them and they restart. I'd like to uninstall Maps and MP3 store but it won't let me of course. There's no magnet in my holster so I can't figure out why Car Home keeps starting (but I always have the default screen, not the car screen). Anyone ever seen anything like this before? How do I fix it?
