Help "Message not sent" error, driving me crazy.

I found this on Motorola Forums and it worked for me without deleting any contacts.
Good Luck!

"The real problem appears to be that the default "Text Messaging" app does not show you a failed message queue, but will continually try to resend them. The good news is that Handcent shows you this queue and allows you to delete these messages. You do not need to continue to use Handcent, just use it to delete undelivered messages. Make sure to turn off Handcent's notifications if you plan to keep it installed as a deletion utility.
Solution:
1. Install Handcent SMS from Android Marketplace
2. Launch Handcent SMS
3. Press Menu Button >> More + >> Undelivered messages
4. Here you can delete undelivered conversations and end your "messages not sent" woes!"

worked fine. Galaxy note 2 - omega rom

The new Handcent App update appears to have removed that option! The above fix worked for me a couple months ago, but then I tried it today when I got the old heinous error back, and the menu options have changed.

I use the stock messaging system. The phone is unrooted and has nothing added to the sms system. I power cycled it, and pulled the battery, and it is still doing it... I want to avoid wiping the phone.
Well i am having the same problem and i went to my carrier and asked them and they wiped my phone sorry but your memory will come back

OK guys. I had the same problem on my moto X, and on the moto G. I never had this problem with the and Galaxy or LG phone that I've own before. Bringing my conclusion that this is a Motorola issue. The ONLY way I was able to fix it without wiping the phone to a factory reset was by doing the following. (By the way this only happen on unrooted phone with stock messaging app.)

1.) Download another messaging app (I used handcent)
2.) IMPORTANT, make sure you set it as the primary app for your messaging. Handcent will ask you if you want to set it as primary when you downloaded.
3.) Go into your stock messaging app and disable all notifications.
4.) Go to settings-apps- find your stock app and disable it completely.

One these easy steps are done, you will no longer see that message pop up. I think it's and issue with the stock app. It happen to me 3 times on the moto g and 6 times on the moto X. Never on any other Android phone. Let me know if you have questions.....

The solution still works using the new Handcent SMS app (temporary in my case). Open Options>Settings>Send Message Settings. Scroll down to Delivery Report and select it. Select the tab for Undelivered and then the Trash Can icon to delete any undelivered messages.

Just registered to say that this solution worked for me! I saw the tip about using Handcent on the previous page but was baffled when I installed app and the menu options had changed. Thanks for providing updated instructions.

I am on an old Razr Maxx and refuse to update stock messaging app to Hangouts because it is slow as molasses. But the "Message not sent" issue was driving me bonkers. I downloaded Handcent and once I found your updated instructions and followed them, I just uninstalled the app and I am good to go!

I now know how to fix this issue if it ever happens again.

Thanks!

I went to txt someone today, and for what ever reason, the message failed to send, and I received the "Message not sent" notification. I tried again, and the message was sent. Now every time I send, or receive a message that notification pops up. "Message not sent - Select to review the message and try again" and when I open the error message, it triggers another to appear. "Undelivered message - Unable to Deliver this message" even though all the txts have been confirmed to go through. This is driving me crazy, any one have any thoughts? It even gives me the message when I open an old txt that I have already read.
I had same problem. Had to install handset SMS for android and force stop my factory message application. Hasn't came up since.

I didn't want to try most of the suggestions i.e., reset, erase all messages, etc., reboot didn't work, but I persisted and found a solution! GO to Message Inbox click the menu icon select Setting then uncheck notifications box. Problem resolved. Test it, send a message to anyone, send a message to yourself. No more error of message not sent try again and the messages are actually sent and received. It worked for me and I hope it works for you. EASY! I have Moto G (2014). BE Careful to go through the Message Inbox Settings to unselect notifications because if you go through storage or settings to all apps its different and the box is still checked Leave It! I don't know what result that will get!

I had this problem too. I downloaded Handsent and followed the instructions posted earlier for the newer version of the app. Options>Settings>Send Message Settings. Scroll down to Delivery Report and select it. Select the tab for Undelivered and then the Trash Can icon to delete any undelivered message. OR just backspace all of the content in the undelivered message. This works and you can uninstall of you want to go back to using the stock messaging app.

Joined just to add that Handcent solved my problem too... Stolen instructions from a previous post but I added the Bold, Italic and Underline

1. Install Handcent SMS from Android Marketplace
2. Launch Handcent SMS
3. IMPORTANT, make sure you set it as the primary app for your messaging. Handcent will ask you if you want to set it as primary when you downloaded.
3. Press Menu Button >> More + >> Undelivered messages
4. Here you can delete undelivered conversations and end your "messages not sent" woes!

My problem seemed to be an unset email from almost a month ago that suddenly started causing a problem.

I am going to try Handcent for a while. It solved a problem and it seems to be kind of a neat interface, especially if you are a former Apple User.

I have tried everything people are suggesting already. Was even on the phone with my cell carrier. Rebooted my whole phone to manufacturing specs (which of course deletes everything) finally got rid of the "message not sent" notification bit only for 1 day. When on the phone with the tec she informed me that if it doesn't work then its in the program update from Motorola. She also stated they have been receiving a bunch of calls about this. Said if it doesn't fix the problem then I would have to call Motorola themselves and that if its the software of their new update then they warranty it and fix problem (I don't think so), but you have to send phone into them. Like I said I have done everything under control he sun to fix the problem and nothing g works.
