Is there any viable uses of the Onboard 6G of storage at this time

So its great that the Inc comes with 6G of onboard memory- but I cant figure out how to utilize it for anything since apps cant see it.

You can still put pictures and music on it. Music and photo app will see it... Quick access also.

No, apps cannot work around it because it is coded into that app. Devs would have to recode their apps completely to make it recognize the internal memory.

They wouldn't have to recode it completely, but they would need to insert abit of code to search for internal storage before looking for sd storage. Imo its really just a matter of inserting a couple lines and recompliling. Should be easy to do. Of course htc will probably release a patch that forces the issue if developers don't get on the ball and get it done but that shouldn't be a huge problem. For now i'll just forget about the onboard storage, its there and eventually will be used, no biggie.

I'm not too familiar with coding so you may be correct, but from what I was gathering it seems more work than just a few lines. I don't think it'd be HTC patching it but rather Google no? This seems to be an OS issue than a mechanical one.

I'm pretty sure native apps on the DI can read the internal memory, so if you're fine with SenseUI included apps playing your music and viewing your pictures, they can (as far as I know) see anything you put on the internal memory.

I've been trying to move my photos and music to the huge untapped internal memory from my now used up SC card on my DX and can't figure it out. Tried through the PC, but there is nothing in the folder view that distinguishes between internal and SD memory. Any suggestions?

You can tell the difference by looking at the drive size, the internal is 6.6gb

No developer would ever completely rewrite their source code if they didn't have to. Even if you were writing a new program that could utilize source code from another program, you would always copy and paste what code you could reuse. The one guys is probably somewhat right. You wouldn't have to rewrite it, but insert additional code throughout your code where it is calling for the sdcard...and stick in additional else/if lines to also check internal memory. Something like that.

I have 6.46GB of internal phone storage and 6.44GB shows as available under "SD & phone storage"

Can I use it for anything or is it reserved for OS usage? My phone is rooted and I have Root Explorer installed. I browsed around but haven't noticed any folder with 6.44GB available space.

The folder you're looking for is EMMC. That's the "folder" where your internal 8GB (6.44GB actual) goes).

The phone's 8GB is actually divided up. There's the /system partition, which I think might be around 256MB but I'm not certain. Then, there's the internal 748MB, followed by the 6.44 GB that's USB mountable. I know it doesn't add up to a whole 8GB, but these things never do.

You can store whatever you like there. Music, pictures, video, etc.

when you connect your phone to your computer, and enable usb storage on you phone, your computer will will recognize two drives. One is your card one is the internal storage. However some roms will not allow your computer to recognize the internal. Compare the size of the drives to determine what one is internal and what one is your card. I renamed mine to make it easier.

It's not a complete rewrite at all, I'm a developer and it doesnt take a lot to do this. However, it can be quite the hassle to test. The emulator Google provides doesn't have internal storage like the Incredible. It would have to be tested on the actual device. Which can be a bit of a hassle, and when you think about it, isn't worth it for us.

Is there a demand by devs to check for the internal memory? No. Almost no other apps do, so why should I? It seems to be accepted that internal memory isn't integrated with Market apps.

To the original topic, I use my internal memory to save ROMs for emulators. Very handy.

Mixzing is a good media program that can use internal storage, but you have to choose between internal or SD card, it won't use both at the same time.
I use it mainly because the stock HTC app doesn't recognize Bluetooth controls.

There's a program I tried, called Power AMP I think, that will get to your internal storage but I believe it was by folder browsing. It was a lot more pleasant to use the sd card.
