No 5 GHz wireless?

I was getting tired of the interference with our old single band wireless router. Imagine my surprise when neither of our LG Volts would join the 5 GHz wireless band...Further research shows our phones do not have 5 GHz radios...

Yes it's TRUE. It does NOT have the 5.8 ghz band. The only place I could find detailed stats for the phone was GSM Arena which said it was Wireless b/g/n. For the record "N" is 5.8 ghz and this phone does not have it.

I have a 2.4ghz wireless bridge up to my parents house and 300ft away I have another Dark Knight ASUS router that connects my iPad2 and previously my Galaxy Victory. I lost bandwidth (speed) having to change my router to make the 2.4ghz band "hybrid wds" instead of dedicated with the N band FREE for WiFi...

Cheap phones! ARRGGHH!!

phone wifi.... download - 46.63Mb/s upload 12.65 Mb/s
computer cat5e.... download - 59.32 Mb/s upload - 12.19 Mb/s
when my new computer that I bought like 2 months ago is on wifi the down speeds are 1/2 of what they are on Ethernet cable... this phone is downloading faster than my computer on wifi so I am not complaining at all about anything b/g/n related and my router is really close.. at work the wifi is weaker but the speeds there suck no matter where I am standing... they do not pay for fast internet at the shop its like 2/2Mb/s

They're not complaining about speed, they're complaining about the frequency it's operating at, although I don't really see why. I have literally never run into any interference issues on 2.4Ghz except one time when a 2.4Ghz phone knocked out my WiFi, bit that was way back when those phones were just coming out.

N does not designate 5ghz band, "dual band" does. N has a butt-ton of different configurations really. And a lot of portable devices still don't support it. My newest laptop didn't support it in its original revision (i7, $1000 list price) but it had a revision when updating to windows 8.1 and they were nice enough to update the wireless to dual band too.

Sorry but I'm pretty sure you can't "software update to dual band radio". Either you have it, or you don't.

Steb, sorry I wasn't more clear. When I say they revised the laptop, I ment the laptop you get from the store. It was for all purposes the same model laptop, but with 8.1 pre installed instead of 8.0. At the same time they updated the preinstalled windows, they were nice enough to replace the single band wifi board inside with a dual channel. Going back to my point was, even expensive laptops don't always support 5ghz though.
