Car mount dash adapter question

Does anyone who has the Motorola car mount know how strong the 3M tape on the dash adapter is? I'm concerned that if I put it on my dash I won't be able to remove it without taking part of the dash off with it. Does anyone have any experience with removing the plastic disk and tape?

Nah. It's an -06 (not that that's new anymore I suppose) that's had a cover over the dash since I got it. The windshield is also UV protected, but that's been fairly standard for the past ten years at least I think.

I have it on the windshield now and it sits pretty well under the rear view mirror. It's not a bad place but I'm not sure I like how it blocks that particular part of the view.

I wouldn't be sticking it to the top of the dash. I'm fairly certain that that part could handle it. I'm more thinking between the two middle vents. The problem is that part of the dash is slightly textured and and seems very much coated (or painted). I don't trust Ford to have paint that won't come off when the tape is removed.

I used the adhesive disk on the dash of my 09 CR-V and the warmth from the sun caused the adhesive to weaken and the disk pulled off the adhesive and the droid and mount fell off after about 2 months of using it. The adhesive was still stuck to the dash I was able to remove it easily using some Goo Gone.

I've now started using a bean bag mount that the suction cup attaches to, which is working great.

Yea, I had the stuff fail on me as well. Cleaned the goo off my dash and replaced it with some of this stuff. I can pull on the mount now and it will pull the trim off the center console of my Element. You can still take it off with the help of a plastic paint scraper. The only problem is the suction cup kept coming off, and after almost breaking my fingers making a quick grab to save the phone the last time it fell, I've permanently glued the mount to the disk.

I couldn't even get it to stick to my dash. I have a big window (full size truck) and putting it on the window I have to lean to reach it. But I found that putting it right about the mirror works well. I'm going to hardware the power plug into my overhead console so it comes down behind the mirror out of the way.

Certain textured dashes won't stick for some reason, I put mine on the glove box door and it works pretty good. It wasn't a totally flat surface so about 20-30% of the disk isn't even stuck to the glove box but it still holds up just fine even when hitting big bumps and whatnot. I use it on the windshield to but with my system up it confuses the accelerometer and makes it go crazy in and out of landscape/portrait so that's when I switch it over to the 3M.

That's the nice thing about the E's dash. Nice untextured plastic in the middle. I need to clean my dash...
