My phone has suddenly stopped charging with charger plugged in. When the phone is plugged inyo charger, the battery icon at the top right hand corner doesn't show charging. I have a spare battery and pack and the charger is charging fine. I have tried everything including taking the battery out etc. Anyone know what's wrong?

You may want to try this. I'm pretty sure you have to be rooted, you did not mention if you were or not.

I know your issue is solved, however, I decided to post here because it's such a similar issue that I didn't want to start a new thread.

For about 3 - 4 months I had no issue with my new S5, then one night after plugging it in to my wall charger, it would NOT accept the charge. No matter what I did, it would not beep nor display the charging icon. I even turned it off, checked the pins, changed wall sockets, nothing worked. As a last resort, I plugged it into my PC and right away, beep, charging.

Back to the wall charger, nothing! - Back to the usb/PC, beep, charging.

After one full charge on the PC, I can go back to the wall charger for a few charges then the same thing happens and I have to charge by PC again. I haven't narrowed down the specifics yet but it seems to be, for every half dozen or so wall charges, I need one Pc charge. Quite the inconvenience as I need the phone by my bedside.

If anyone else has this issue let me know, I'd like to know why this is needed! Such an odd thing.

Thanks

I am having the same issue, My phone is 1 week old. I put it on the charger went back an hour later and dead. Have it plugged up to my PC as suggested and still nothing. Anymore suggestions. I just got this one I broke my first one. I don't want to have to go thru insurance again to get another new one.

I'm having the same problem. I have tried my usual charger, different outlets, car charger, no avail. But I just plugged it into my laptop and it's charging. So weird. I hope it doesn't become a regular thing like it is for you.

My S5 has a Qi wireless charger in it.

sometimes it immediately senses the charger pad and off it goes.

but, after this 4.4.4 update, I have been noticing that if the screen is locked, it will not start the charge wirelessly.

However, IF the screen is unlocked, then it immediately beeps and the charging starts right up.

4.4.4 has left us with some things I don't like.

Favorites still does not have the option of List View, and it did in the OEM release in April.

The charging is a sometimes thing, but I think I got that as explained.

The dialer issue I "fixed it" if you will by installing exDialer * ExDialer - Dialer & Contacts - One I use which offers several options for sorting the Favorites and Contacts list. It reverts to the OEM dialer when the number is actually dialed out, AND I LIKE THAT because it gives me the option to turn the Speakerphone and the Bluetooth on/off from the dialer pad. The other dialer apps do not retain that feature.

There are at least 2 or 3 more things that I miss in 4.4.4 but can't recall at this moment. I need to keep notes of the things that bug me.

Been having problems with charging my Galaxy S5 since I purchased it a few months ago..I put up with the intermittent charging until it finally packed up last week. Took it back under the 24 month warranty cover and have just been told they want $200.00 to repair a damaged charging port! The phone is now selling at around $780.00 NZ. Is this a design fault in what is supposed to be Samsungs flagship phone. As far as I'm concerned it has been faulty since I purchased it..roll the sleeves up for a visit to the supplier tomorrow!

I also have Qi and have not had any problem charging while locked with the 4.4.4 update. (I am using the OEM wireless back)

It suddenly began happening yesterday afternoon. Now my phone won't charge unless connected via a USB port. I am utterly dissatisfied with such technicalities.

Please provide a quick solution, perhaps an update to allow the amperage to be accepted. And make it snappy please.

Thank you!

Yeah my GS5 is doing the same thing... I have a charger i have been successfully using for months with the phone but starting a few months ago it simply will not charge from it. To get it to charge i have to plug it into my pc usb port and sometimes after its been charging for a bit i can switch to the wall charger and then it works but if i unplug it and then plug it back in it does not work again but pc works every time. Randomly every so often it will work every time with the charger too for like a few weeks then it just stops again for days-weeks... I am so annoyed with this phone.. my first time with samsung too..

What a crock...this happened when i had a g3 and now again with my g5. it HAS to be a factory defect. and of course the dumbass "techs" at my provider didnt even mention trying what i found online. they went immediately want to either make you pay for another one or factory reset. I'm getting very disappointed in Samsung...

Question?

Will the phone still open from the lock-screen, and if so, does WiFi still work?

if so, then install Super Backup and export it all.

* Super Backup : SMS & Contacts - Android Apps on Google Play

Then, on your new phone, install Super Backup there and import it all.

the Export Function can use email which is my favorite method.
I email it to myself and save it to a folder on my email account.
It will also perform automatic backups to the SD card on a schedule you choose. Not a bad little app.

My phone is water damaged. So, no it doesn't open from the lock-screen.

My son's S5 Sport just started doing this on Saturday (11/28/15)-our 1yr purchase anniversary date. We tried different charging cables, including a car charger, but none work. I swapped my battery for his & was able to charge his battery in my S5 phone. His phone will NOT charge via his laptop. So, we have to keep swapping our batteries.

We just got back from Sprint who told us the internal charging cables are corroded. We live in Las Vegas (the driest place on earth) and the phone has never been dropped or put in water (even though it's supposed to be "water resistant" to 10ft). They claimed it was "user damage" and they wouldn't even try to repair it. Their only suggestion was to use an external battery charger & replace it every day.

I know this may not help you, but it's an alternate charging solution.

A better charging solution is to buy a Qi Wireless Receiver charger.
I have two S5s and both have Qi wireless charging receiver coils in them.
Both stay charged up every day, just by laying them on a pad for a couple of hours.

The good Qi charger coils are about $10 bux, make darn sure to read the fine print... it must state that it will charge at a spacial distance of 8 mm to be reliable... I have been thru about 4 of them, and if it don't say that it can handle a 8 mm distance between phone and the Qi pad, it is very likely that when the phone is in a case, it won't charge.

I just ordered up a new one for my 'new to me' Note 4, and I made sure it said '8mm distance' in the specs.

I have a couple of Qi wireless chargers in my desk drawer you can have for postage, but that is more than eBay can sell them to you for.

I have the GS5 and am having charging issues with it as well. For the past few months now, when I plug it into the wall it will say it's charging, then three seconds later it will stop, then three seconds later start charging again. Now with this what ends up happening is the phone continously lights up as if I keep plugging it in, and it actually ends up killing the battery faster. I am over all frustrated with my phone now I have a external battery charger that I can put the battery in but it takeseems a long time to charge and it only ever goes 86 percent. I have swapped my battery with a Co worker who has the same phone and my battery charges full and is fine and I have tried many different cables too. I'm very disappointed with Samsung I would never buy another again after reading this thread.
