Help Won't sleep

Sorry if this was covered elsewhere, but I could not find it with search. I'm back to having less than 5 hours of battery before it shuts down. At 3:00 today I was at 100% charge and at 6:00 I was at 40%. The really interesting part is when I look at the batter details. I'm at 30% right now and I have 3:24:15 of uptime and 3:23:56 of awake time. Something is not letting the droid sleep.

Other than stock apps I have, xtremelabs speed test, connect bot, keepass, astro file manage and K-9. The only app that should be running is K-9 and it's using 4% of the battery.

I would imagine it is one of those apps. Try checking the running services and see if any of the downloaded apps have a run-time around your awake time. It might be one of them isn't working properly, and just refuses to go into the background/sleep/shut off.

If you can't figure it out from that, just start removing the apps 1 at a time, put the phone to sleep..and check back half an hour later. If your awake time is no longer equal to your up time, then the last one you removed was the culprit.

OK, I tired a battery pull (but I can't really keep doing that). I've un-installed everything but K-9 (I need IMAP IDLE mail). I doubt that the other programs were causing the issue, but we'll see. The speed test is a broadband speed test. Connectbot is a ssh client. KeePass is a password anager and astro is for browsing / modifying files. None of them should run in the background (unless you left SSH running and I had not even launched it yet).

No, I wouldn't suggest that as an ongoing maintenance activity. It's just amazing how many things a battery pull can fix. Smart phones never shut down - they just go into a coma.

android system as the main culprit.

How can your awake time be greater then the Up Time???

Android System is normal, how about other installed apps below it? Also, the "blue" represents the percentage of time that that app used the battery (ie: since last unplugged). A large BLUE bar usually means an issue.

The Eris had a bug with this. The bug ended up being in the messaging app. The workaround was to use a third party app like handcent or chomp sms. Maybe its the same here but I haven't checked on it.

Naw, it's not the infamous SMS bug. I use all the stock HTC apps and I'm running fine. It's a runaway process or market app, has to be.

It could be, or like you said another app not playing well. Who knows but worth a look just the same.

Just a hunch, but I would bet k9. The only way to tell would be to uninstall and check your awake time. Or factory reset and load one by one your apps to see.

Tap Android System and report. I'm interested in CPU Foreground vs CPU Total.

Same for the rest of the items in the list from the stock battery app.

BTW, my Inc has been on for about 12 hours straight with no charge. GPS and 3G have been on the whole time. Light phone use today, and no real voice activity, but apps are sync'ing and I've been texting/chatting. I'm still over 30% battery.

I'm at 66 hours uptime, 22 hours awake.

K-9 is using IMAP IDLE (no polling) so it 'should' be pretty light weight

im getting well over 24 hours on this thing, maybe it was the way i first cycled the battery, or my combo of advanced task killer/fast reboot, but it is great

Well verizon's tech support was very helpful ;-) I got 2 suggestions:

- Install Advanced Task Killer
- Keep the phone on the charger

My up time is aproximately my awake time. As I said in my original topic, it simply won't sleep. Right now I'm at 50% battery with 2 hours of Up time (I powered down just after 100% charge so I get times as of the full charge). I'm going to go ahead and un-install K-9 as that is the last custon app installed. It's going to make the phone pretty useless to me (I need the IMAP IDLE mail) but at least I'll know if that is the problem.

Good luck. If that doesn't work, it's almost worth a factory reset, and then run it for a while with nothing on it.

Also, SystemPanel might not be a bad idea (actually salvaged something fom VZW's otherwise terrible advice). Don't use it to kill tasks, but rather as a more granular view of apps.

I'm thinking that while K-9 itself might not be eating the battery, I think it is preventing the android system from sleeping, and the system then drains the battery.

Also check out all of the various battery info at *#*#4636#*#* ( This is where the partial usage info comes from in the first place. ), but theres also cpu usage, network usage, GPS and sensor as well as an "Other".

I already did one factory reset. Had a major pain reactivating after that. Had to call Verizon and manually program the phone. *228 option 1 would not program it and *228 option 2 d/l the PRL but I had no data.

I just did a power off/on (which I believe is a reboot?). My awake time is still in lock step with my uptime.
