So yeah, my mom accidently dropped my in a giant glass of water. I put it in rice for a day and pulled it out and yeah it's still not working. Looks like i'll be buying a new phone but i'm taking her upgrade so what are my choices for phones to upgrade to?

1. HTC INCREDIBLE?

2. other options ?!?!

I'm cheap, so with that, plus the fact that I've been messing with my wife's Incredible which isn't much more than the Eris with 2.1, I'd get an Eris. That's just me though.

you don't think the phone has more speed than the eris? i was thinking overall it's a newer better design and fit and finish along with the camera and all the spec's it would be best to go with the upgrade. i'm cheap as well but my mom is paying for the phone since it was her fault and i don't have insurance because i think it's a waste of money and they wouldn't cover water damage anyways

It's faster, for sure. Better camera and all, but I didn't like the feel of it myself, maybe I'm so used to the Eris. BUT, if she's paying for it, might as well.

The incredible is an improved version of the Eris, but ultimately, it just seems like alot to pay for speed. I do think it is going to be faster, but overall, you are not getting any increased functionality, applications, etc. It's totally a matter of personal opinion and cost analysis.

Personally, I love new tech and I love having the newest thing. I make a decent living, so I don't mind overpaying for little things since I enjoy them so much. Some people don't want to spend as much for so little because they are more cost conscious. You just have to decide if the cost is worth the benefit to you personally.

Yeah, I don't plan on paying for it like i said above. my mom is going to pay for it since it was her fault. if i had to pay for it myself i'd prob just get another eris.

748mb of app storage space alone is worth it to me. I have nearly 200mb of apps on the phone and i've only had it for 5 full days.

lol i had my eris for 5-6 months for sure and got it screwed up once from filling it with app's and different home like pandahome. open home. finally got the phone so screwed up i had to wipe it. lol

Use your old phone. The Incredible has come and gone. It's not longer the phone to have and IMO, I would still rather have a Droid with stock Android.

If you can wait until the End of June (at the latest) there will be several new Android phones coming out. So if you aren't sold on the Incredible, don't just buy it for the hell of it to have a smartphone. Wait it out with your old VZW phone, which can be reactivated, and wait until the Droid 2 or Nexus Two is mentioned.

I now suggest everyone looking for a new phone get a Google phone, and not a phone with Sense or BLUR. Since the 2.1 thread antics in this section, it's obvious people are expecting the same priority as those with stock Android, which always gets firmware updates first. The Droid, Nexus One, etc. are all Stock phones. They aren't running Sense or BLUR which always adds an extra step for VZW to test.

So wait it out a bit and keep on the lookout for new phone details. If you find a cheap phone you like now, go for it. Otherwise, you have a blessing in disguise. Wait to use the upgrade on something new. Again, the Incredible may be the best VZW has to offer, but it's old and most people have moved on.

i hear you on everything but just judging by the threads on this site and how many posts in each section the moto droid is the leader then the incredible and it hasn't even been out that long. the htc eris is like only 60k posts or something like that and moto droid is like 122k and incredible is like 88k or something close to that.

i would assume for a phone that just came out that's pretty crazy and a lot of people probably have it if it's that high up and it hasn't been out that long. just a thought though

I would base absoloutely nothing on the amount of post counts.
The Droid has been out for a long time, so it's gonna have a lot of posts. The Incredible has been hyped so much, it's gonna have a lot of posts.

There was a thread made just for the launch of the Incredible that reached 40,000 posts. You should go in the section and see what the complaint threads are. If they were legitimate complaints about issues that are not the user's fault, then it's faulty hardware and/or software and you should proceed with caution. The Eris has its fair share of bugs, but mainly due to the 2.1 leak most of us are running. 1.5 is fine, save for the speed.

I don't think I've heard anything substantial about the Droid and complaints about it. Most of the people that "love" the Incredible are just Eris users that are high on the fact they have more speed. The OS is still same buggy POS because of Sense.

Which is why I suggest a stock Android phone. ;)

gotcha, so if you were to buy a phone and you didn't have to pay for it right now and it was with an upgrade you'd get the stock moto droid?

This thread is doomed. 1) The haters will make nasty comments 2) Mods will be notified. 3) Inc is mentioned so it gets shut down.

Smacky has a point. There are several Android phones coming out soon. There will always be new phones but we are going from just a couple of phones 6 months ago to several over the summer.

I don't want to get too far off track here .... and i really don't want to start a insurance v. no insurance debate, but some insurance WILL cover water damage (my homeowners policy covers my phone, and will cover water damage). I just thought you should know.

I don't think this thread will get shut down. Nobody here is bragging or rubbing the incredible in anybody's faces. As to the OPs question. I'm with smacky, I would get the moto droid. Sense causes these phones to get pushed to the back of the line as far as upgrades to new OSs go. Don't get me wrong I like sense, and I'm rooted so whatever new OS comes out, it will most likely get ported. But for the average user who wants it the way it comes out of the box. Its possible that the Eris will still be sitting on 1.5 while other phones are getting upgraded to 2.2.

lol

anyone know what the huge diff is between eris and incredible? i'm looking on there sites and honestly it's just the ghz is 2x the eris and the ram?

basically it's $70 bucks for the eris vs $199 for the incred... hrmm

The Inc is a lot faster than the Eris because it has a faster chip and more RAM. Other than that, you get a 2GB Micro SD card (with promotion if they are still doing this) while you get an 8GB card with the Eris. The looks of each (the GUI) are exactly the same since each uses the same sense and Android platform.

Engadget just reported that the LG Ally is coming out May 20th. LG confirms Android-powered Ally, coming May 20th -- Engadget
You may want to hang around to see what this phone is all about. LG has made some nice handsets in the past as well as HTC.
