Push Email w/o Gmail?

Ok, so i've had my Incredible for almost a week now and I still havent brought myself to set up my Gmail to POP my work and Hotmail accounts. I just don't care for the Gmail system or client for Android OS.

I DO have a Gmail account (pretty much forced into it) but my main accounts are Hotmail and my own custom domain (non-exchange).

Yes, i'm coming from a Blackberry and have been spoiled with the best Push technology out there. No, i will not go back to Blackberry, so please spare the suggestions.

What i am wondering is if there is any 3rd party app out there that will Pop your email acct(s) and push the mail to your phone to either the stock HTC Mail app or it's own 3rd party client.

I've seen K-9 - but not sure if this is what i'm looking for.

I've seen Touchdown - but this appears to be only for Exchange.

Can either of these applications provide Push Email to Android or are there any others out there? If not, does anyone know of any on the horizon?

IMAP idle is sort of like push, not sure if Android supports it.

why dont you forward all your mails from your other accounts to your Gmail account and then use Gmail Pushmail and enjoy...

Use the HTC Mail app...then set it up as activesync exchange...then just sign in as your gmail account and the server name should be m.google.com...simple as pie!!!

How ecactly does this work? This may be exactly what I need to do for my MSN email. Please more info on this.

Not sure if you read my post, but i did mention that i wish not to use GMail or it's Android App, as i had done exactly that previously (on my Eris) and was not satisfied with the performance. The reason being was because Gmail only allows to POP your other accounts every 5 minutes. Even if Gmail pushed it out immediately, then it's really not true Push from those other accounts.

What you mention actually is intriguing though. As i never actually thought about Forwarding my other accounts TO Gmail. I always had GMail POP'ng those accounts. I can LIVE with the GMail App and GMail service if this provides a faster turnaround for email. Maybe if Hotmail/Work mail is FWD'ing TO Gmail, then Gmail will receive the mail faster, and as a result, my phone will receive it faster. I'll do some testing.

I searched for "Seven on Android" and was only able to find some press releases and industry articles about the announcement of it's development from early last year. Did they ever create the service/app for Andoird and if so, is it available on the Inc?

Note: You cannot Forward Yahoo Mail w/o Upgrading to the Full Version ($20/year). I do not have a Yahoo acct but i figured i'd pass this on to anyone looking to do what i'm doing.

Hotmail, however, offers this feature for Free

Options > Forward Email to Another Email

It even offers the option to keep a message on the server.

How nice.

I've only been playing with this for 20 minutes or so and can already tell that Forwarding your other email accounts TO Gmail is FAR quicker than having GMail POP your accounts.

The forwarding is about as instantaneous as it gets. Where as if you have GMail POP your accounts, the fastest interval in which it will POP is 5 minutes, which is not ideal.

One thing that you CANNOT DO in this setup (or if you POP your accounts from GMail) is that you CANNOT SEND NEW MAIL FROM NON-GMAIL ACCOUNTS.

You can, however, reply to the message and it will retain the original email address, but only if you set up "Send Mail As" Addresses in the GMail Web App:

Gmail -> Settings -> Accounts and Forwarding -> Send Mail As

Setup the addresses that you are forwarding from so that you can at least reply to emails sent to your device as the email address that the message was sent to.

You still cannot send NEW mail from these accounts, but, besides checking my email, 95% of the rest of what i do is replying to messages, not creating new ones.

Quite the workaround. But it DOES work.

The option to forward emails to Gmail is faster, but it is not so great when it comes to sending messages and replying.
I do not have access to an Exchange Service either.

I would like to know more about the Seven App. Has anyone used it? What does it do exactly?

I posted a link above to the Seven email service. I did some reading and checking on this program, it sounds like it works most of the time. There was a lot of unanswered questions on thier support page and when the support staff answered the questions on the forum they were rude and didnt seem to interested in helping to solve the problems. I do not want to try this program just for this reason.

I would agree that having separate accounts on the phone for each email is easier, however, the drain on battery (polling every 5 mins) and the delay in reception of email are two very big reasons for me not to set it up this way.

One solution i read was to set it up exactly how i have it as mentioned above, which would leave only the need to send NEW email as me@work.com or me@hotmail.com. For this, just setup the HTC Mail client with your email account and disable Polling for Messages. This way, if you DO need to send a NEW email as me@work.com, you just pop open this app and send away.

Again, not the most ideal setup, but is how i'll have to do it for now until a better solution arises. In due time people....in due time.

it works fairly well. I get instant email for my work and hotmail, folders for both too. the "unread" count is off sometimes but i am not worried about that really. Been using it for 1 day so far

I am using it and I know nothing about them and they very well may be scrapping my emails for passwords and other personal details (who knows)

But the APP is terrific - Push email works perfectly and the whole thing is smooooth...

Only issue I've seen is that you cant edit the "From" field - so your emails are sent as ________@yahoo.com (or whatever) as oppossed to Your Name (_______@yahoo.com)

minor gripe to be sure.

Just an update - Seven Beta was preventing my Inc from sleeping (i.e. it KILLED the battery) - too bad I REALLY liked it.

Anyone else have this issue?

yes today i did narrow down my battery life to this

same as you i really like it too but i cant use it with bad battery. hopefully they can get that fixed because its the only app like it that i have seen
