Unthankful/Dislike/Thumbs Down

I think a help would be for Mod's to put in a Unthankful/Dislike/Thumbs down to the posts, like you see for the Thanks. A button to register the readers take on things, let alone if things get out of hand. Just a suggestion as I have absolutely NO idea what it would take to implement this. Forgive me for my ignorance. But seeing a hundred NO Thank You's on a user will certainly give weight as to whether or not a reader would even take a posting seriously or be disregarded.

This tool could be used indiscriminately to identify PROBLEM posts or posters who offend either fellow forum members or the rules. I found mbell to be quite abrasive (not to take sides, lol) but if the dislike button were available, the Admin's/Mod's could be free from being the bad guys and allow for the users to have some discreet input to opinion on who the trouble makers are. IF they wish to value Forum Users opinions ;)
(hehe, don't shoot me).

Ultimately, this Forum is controlled pretty fairly and is enjoyable and informative, all excellent qualities. And yes, at the volume it is accessed, it is a difficult thing to do. Keep up the good work...

:D

I agree with this and totally support a no thanks or anti-thanks button.

Just report it! Multiple reports on a post add as "replies" to the report and show a priority. I think that a thumbs down button would just cause problems, to be honest...

But wouldn't his idea
also limit having to search through 900 replies
just to find an answer to a question.

Having a thumbs down feature and doing like youtube in the sense where a certain amount of thumbs down
flags the comment and hides/deletes it would make it easier for people to find the answers they seek
and also it would help the people who complain about people asking the same question over and over

I think that the current system works fine.

I think that the current system works fine.

It does... to a certain extent yes.

But just think how much everyone has appreciated the ability to have input in THANKING useful posts and the people who post them.

In it's simplicity, it is a wonderfully small thing that means so much, to just click - "THANKS" - without having to get involved in the thread or post a reply or whatnot.

It's cool, but just a suggestion that maybe could be kicked up with all the Mod's/Admins...

It does. The only caveat being a poor moderator to member ratio, as pointed out by OTD, which keeps needed reminders by mods few and far between.

Post reporting should be encouraged by us all.. but isn't said much during a heated debate because it just seems "finky," I think. We need to just set a good example, each one of us in addition to clicking that report button when things get out of hand.

Frisco how long do you have to be on probation

well they should make people
like OTD or Frisco a moderator
as well as other people who contribute
to the site(idk about the other phone sections)
but it would greatly beef up the ratio

He's on probation for 13 more days. This is not the thread to talk about this. If you would like to continue, I feel that it would be somewhat appropriate in the "Banned?" thread.

Oh sorry. I didn't want to have to jump back to the other thread to ask that
but i apologize

but hopefully this topic in this thread will get passed :)
i'd greatly support it

Mmm.. here's the problem with that though. People have been known, and still do make proxy(duplicate) accounts, from different ip's. So...

I don't like user "x"

Well I give user "x" a thumbs down on all or most of his posts.

Well thats not enough hmm what to do....

Aha! I create proxy(fake) accounts, to give him more thumbs downs!

True true
just shows how much time people have on their hands to waste, i guess

I have to agree with this. There are advantages to the thumbsdown system, but definite disadvantages as well (in addition to what IOWA stated above).

EXAMPLE:
What if IOWA (not picking on him... I promise) honestly tries to help someone out in the Incredible forum, unfortunately the information he provided works great on the Hero (still on 1.5) but not on the Inc (2.1). Chances are that once one person TD's him, more will follow.

Does this mean he's a bad person or not helpful or (insert insult of choice). No, but now he has 59 TD's under his username.

He was trying to be helpful, but his info was a little less than helpful.

Perhaps a more helpful/better solution is just like the old (unworking) rep system. TU means the post was useful, TD means it wasn't. Limit it to ONE point per post (i.e. +1, 0 or -1). So... if IOWA posts a great thread about a new 2.314 leak and gets 1million TU's, it will only show up as a +1 under is username. If this same post gets 5 TU's and 4 TD it would count as a +1. If he gets 3TU and 3TD, it would show up as 0. If he gets 5000 TD and 2TU, it would count as -1.

I think that THIS would be much more effective. :)

I thought of that... But for the most part, what are we talking about??? One or two infantile members of this fantastic Forum? Those who have nothing better to do but set up alt. users for the purpose of proxy/flood forums, votes and whatnot are easily outed if the Admin's/Mod's smell it happening.

Honestly, just the attitude of those same people I think would be cause for them to be the highest recipients of the thumbs down, thereby negating any negativity they try to cause. In other words...

Leopards don't change their spots! ;)

But wouldn't it be good to say "BLAH" to a post as much as Thank You?

Hehe... :D

That works for inappropriate or offensive. I think the suggestion for the thumbs down would be more for "that suggestion wasn't helpful" type notations just as the thanks is to help note that something did help.... but I can see it being abused like the thanks is. I think of the thanks as "that answer worked/helped" while many use it more like a high-five to posts.

Not removed
it just hides
them.

People can still press the little button
on youtube
and it will showed the comment still regardless.
Again.

Just report it. If the moderators find the post a member finds offensive or breaks the rules, it will be taken care of.

Adding a "dislike" button will cause too much conflict between everyone. The system is fine as it is now.

Let me just jump in to say that I see this idea being more bad than good. And I see a lot of problems coming from it. People will just be giving thumbs down to people who they don't like and it WILL (and trust me when I say WILL) turn into a mess.

And, to address the needing more mods situation, we are in the process of looking into adding more mods. However, and no disrespect meant by this, people that are currently or recently have been on probation are unlikely to be in the running.
