Image Resize request

Can we get an automatic resize function in the forum. More and more I see a lot more members posting images without taking into account that the image may simply too large and offsets the forums borders.

I've been resizing them myself and uploading them to my website, but its almost impossible to do them all at the rate its happening. Plus I can't do this every time, my hosting site will kill me. lol

+ 1 vote for scroll bar. Not sure how easy that would be to implement though...

Yeah. That would be the best way to solve this problem. Re-sizing might mess up some awesome images users post here.

It's actually very easy to implement this.

You just add overflow: auto; to the post <div>.

This is how I have it set up on my forum. The max width is set at 680px.

<div class="postbody" style="overflow: auto; max-width: 680px;">

That should do it. You can adjust the max width to your liking.

Try convincing everyone to do that..

I've looked into some plugins, but all of them seem to have some sort of conflict with vb 3.8.x and I don't want to solve one problem only to create others. We've got our hands full with some new features we plan on launching, so this is a bit down the "to do" list, but its something we'd LIKE to get solved.

Just waiting to find the right solution...

If an auto resize is too complicated...can the Guides be able to resize a poster's picture as well? Or we have that option already o_O I really find it annoying when the thread window is askew because of one poster's picture is HUGE!
No, you can't do that. That would require changing the Guide's rights to allow post editing and I really don't think that's something the Admins are looking to change.

Awww I thought that might be the case...but thought there might be a way to bypass that to have the Guide just edit the picture :(

For guides, no. Not that I am aware of. But the Guides can notify a mod and we can edit the members post/image from an image to a link to that image.
I used to resize them myself, but that meant uploading the image to my server and using that as the thumbnail to show here in AF. At the rate people are uploading huge images, it was too time consuming.

The image resizer here

The Image Resizer. Powered with Lytebox / Highslide / Lightview / and many more! - vBulletin.org Forum

its listed for 3.7, i use it on 3.8 with vbseo and about 50 (seriously, 50) other add-ons for vbulletin and it does a damn fine job. installs in minutes, set it and forget it type mod.

if you want to, there are lots of options in the mod to fancy up the resizing like lightbox and stuff, but i just use the standard deal with the yellow bar cause it is super user friendly and browser compatible.

example

i can vouch for this mod, i have used it on probably 6 forums with no ill effects.

VV i found just now

gio is a super awesome coder/dev. his stuff is good, for 3.8
