Hi,

So yesterday I received the Skinomi Screen Protector I purchased fromAmazon

Tonight I got the guts to install the thing. I brought home a container of Anti-static screen wipes to assist me. So here is what I had:

(As you can see, my screen is pretty dirty)

Opening the Skinomi box you see the applicator spray:

Tucked away in the top part is the actual protector and "applicator":

First thing I did, per the instructions was to remove the battery:

Once I could muster up the balls I went into the bathroom and turned on the tap water as hot as I could. Then I used a couple of the anti-static wipes to clean the screen as best as I could. It looked beautiful, you should have seen it. (No pictures allowed in my bathroom ;) )

Once it was clean enough I wet my fingertips with the spray. Then peeled off the Skin and wet it down. Finally, I spent about 10 minutes trying to position it perfectly. It didn't seem to fit perfectly. But Very good and I think once it sets you won't even see it anyways.

Finally I used the applicator to squeege out any bubbles and mopped up the extra liquid. Heres the final product:

Here is a close up (sorry for the blur):

My only real oddity is at the lower right of the phone (I'm thinking this will go away):

In general I though the application was easy and straightforward. The spray didn't bother me and I thought careful squeegeeing (sp?) was all that was required to prevent liquid from getting anywhere.

My only real issue is that upon close inspection it looks like a very small particle made it under the Skin. It is unnoticeable when looking directly at the screen so I don't think its a big deal.

Other then that the protector looks great and I think it was a good value.

I'll report back tomorrow when I finally power her up again. I actually feel lonely without her right now. The laptop feels like an old girlfriend and the desktop a hooker ;)

Thanks for taking the time for the write up! Looks good. I'm still trying to be patient for the SGP store to get their act together and get these anti-glare/fingerprint skins out! :p

No problem. A lot of people seem to be looking for screen protector info so I just figured I would document my install and post the result for anyone interested.

What is "orange peel"? I've seen people refer to it several times, but I have no idea what they mean...

Orange peel effect in wet solution applied "rubber" screen protectors refers to the finish of the screen protector. Some like Zagg suffer from an orange peel effect meaning that the screen protector isn't completely smooth but rather has an "orange peel" type surface. In short, it's not smooth but slightly bumpy if that makes sense. Hope that helps!

Ahhh, Skilcraft anti-static wipes - gov't work by chance?

Not quite, but close ;)

How is the orange peel on this?

I haven't noticed any orange peel look but I haven't turned the phone back on yet so maybe it would be more noticeable then.

Skinomi does claim their product doesn't have this problem.

That looks great! I'm on a VZW protector until I decide on a "Full Screen" Solution. Great writeup & pics. I'll have to consider this product now. You should work for their marketing / PR department :)

Thanks! I'm always looking for extra work :D

Is the case you have the Verizon clear snap on that also comes in red and purple, or some 3rd party case?

Yea, its the verizon clear snap on case. I wasn't thrilled to buy it but it only cost me $16 and I figure it will hold me over until I get something more permanent.

I actually really like the look and feel of the case. It makes the phone feel a little more rigid and sturdy.

My issue is that it easily scratches and the back already looks beaten up. Overall I am happy with it though.

Great write-up! I was actually thinking of doing the same thing. I researched several brands on this site but came across the Skinomi for $10 on ebay and it offers a lifetime warranty. I installed the protector yesterday and began using the phone a few hours later (despite their request to wait 24 hours).

Honestly, it looked terrible all of yesterday. Even last night, I was looking at it and knew I failed at the install and put fingerprints under the cover. I was pissed. Woke up today and it is entirely cleared up! I guess it was just the water solution under the cover and it needed to dry up.

I have not tried other protectors but I really like this one. The fit is PERFECT! It is not grippy and my finger easily slides across it. It does take away some of the sensitivity of the screen but that can be readjusted in the settings (and would happen with any cover).

The presentation of the box and solution was pretty cool too!

I also have the skinomi protector. I bought two of these, one for mine and one for my wife's phone.

I only installed the one on my phone as I wanted to be able to compare the two phones with and without. I also did not want to screw up two phones.

In the end I compared the two phones and they looked great. I put the two phones togethr on the same screens with the same apps and asked my wife which was hers. She was not able to tell. Neither would I had I not done it. You can feel the difference because of the glass / no glass feel. But bottom line on top is that it looks clear with no loss of clarity.

I would definitely recommend this skin.

How does it handle fingerprints?

Well I got home tonight and turned the Incredible back on. Thankfully all is well and the phone didn't seem to suffer much.

There is definitely a tackiness as I have heard others describe. If possible I would like to turn up the sensitivity of the touch screen. Is this possible? It isn't terrible but not ideal for me.

The other thing I noticed is definitely an orange peel effect, albeit a very slight one. The display almost looks a tad streaky at times. Nothing too bad but I noticed it. Hopefully over the next day this will start to fade.

In general I am happy with the Skinomi Screen Protector. I plan to keep it one for now at least.

I also have a Skinomi. I put it on my phone on Saturday and I've been very pleased with it. I honestly don't even know it's there. I previously had a Zagg on my iPhone and this is much better. The tackyness of the Zagg isn't there with this one. It honestly feels like the regular screen to me. The orange peel affect also isn't there. It's really bad on the iPhone. With the Skinomi I can maybe barely see something at a certain angle, but not really the same. It was a super easy install and luckily I managed to get it with nothing under the screen.

Oh, and as for taking out the batter and not turning it on for 24 hours... HA! I didn't even turn my phone off to do it. I never have. I did two Zagg's on my iPhone and now this one. Who cares. As long as you don't go crazy with the solution and make sure you don't push water in the holes you're fine.

I meant to answer that earlier. It does not leave fingerprints like the glass screen did. That was pretty annoying until I put this skin on.

It also does NOT have the orange peel look to it. Very smooth.

Like the previous poster said, it does lack that glass feel but that is because...well...it's not glass. I don't imagine any of them would feel like glass. But it is very smooth and not grippy.

I definitely get a slight orange peel effect that is slightly noticeable when the screen is on. I've never had a Zagg so I don't have anything to compare it to.

Is there a way to adjust touchscreen sensitivity?

thanks,
adh

Actually, just today, I noticed a little bit of orange peel effect on this cover. It hadn't occurred to me the first couple days with it. I have an ebay cover on my wifes phone and it actually looks like an orange peel. That is my only experience and this is definitely not as bad.
