I am having problems where HTC Sync on my PC will not recognize my device. I have used multiple versions of HTC Sync. I have tried to sync via VPN and via direct LAN connection. When it tries to connect, I get the error msg on the device that says Unable to find HTC Sync on your PC. I disconnect all cables, exit out of HTC Sync on the PC, then open HTC Sync, reconnect the cables....NOTHING!!!

This sync WAS working previously when I first got the device on this past Thursday but over the last 2 days I have been having no success. I have deleted all calendar and contacts via Settings -> Manage Applications.

At this point, I am tempted to try Companion Link unless someone can help me here. By the way, I am trying to sync with Lotus Notes 8.5 calendar and contacts.

Its because the Incredible is not written in the driver. Follow the instructions here and you will be on your way :)

Installing HTC Incredible Android SDK Drivers |

He's not trying to use ADB.

Why would he need the Android SDK driver to use HTC Sync?

Does HTC instruct users to download the Android SDK just to use HTC Sync?

I would have figured that all the drivers he needs for HTC Sync would be in the HTC Sync download.

I was thinking the same thing, but after doing some research, there are users reporting that the drivers for the HTC incredible have not been appended to the inf file.

Yeah, but to make HTC Sync work, shouldn't he be modifying the androidusb.inf, htcdiag.inf, and htcrndis.inf files located in C:\Program Files\HTC\HTC Driver\Driver Files\XP_x86.

Cause he doesn't want an ADB device driver loaded, he wants a generic HTC phone device driver.

According to what I've read in the HTC support forums:
There is an "HTC Sync.exe" that should have been pre-loaded on the phone (located in the root folder of the phone's internal storage). If he is using an older version of HTC Sync, it may mot have the updated .inf files to properly install the device drivers.

There is no mention of a pre-loaded "HTC Sync.exe" file in the product documentation.

Those are ADB drivers they're talking about and would have no bearing on connecting with HTC Sync. When Sync 2.0.33 is installed, it should also install the correct HTC driver package.

CompanionLink is a terror and nightmare! It just jumbled up all 1300 of my contacts! Took phone numbers from one person and put them on another person's record, email addresses from relatives put on coworkers records, how could that possibly happen! Stay away from CompanionLink!!! I am NOT an employee of some other app developer. I am a user (HTC Evo 4G). I've been syncing Palm devices since 1997, have migrated to Outlook from Palm Desktop and like to think I kind of know what I'm doing. Companion Link clearly does NOT know what they are doing. When I called them for help, their unfriendly receptionist told me quitting time is 4PM so too bad for me.

Hi all,

First post is a fix to this issue which I had as well. No need for patches or SDK's.

The HTC phone defaults to the USB port in "Charge" mode. Meaning the USB cable will only be used to power the phone. To change this (with phone plugged in) pull down notifications and choose HTC Sync. Change option to sync phone here.

As soon as you make this change the HTC Sync on your PC will recognize your phone and you are off to the races.

Cheers.

Shad.
