True, I do have a Task Manager, I just only use it for certain situations..such as if I come across a badly coded app.

I still insist on having some sort of task manager. Becuase there are cases where apps go rogue and cannot be closed unless you force kill it with a task manager. Situations like these rarely happen though, but its always good to have a task manager on standby

You can force close without a Task Manager....Settings>Applications>Manage Applications>Menu>Filter>Runinng...select the app & choose force stop. But a task manager is a little easier.

Knock yourself out - except you're believing a lie propagated by the task killers - Android does not open up all of your tasks in the background.

Task killers don't save your battery or improve performance - they're snake oil and they degrade it.

okay then.. can you tell me why, on my Ssmsung Galaxy Tab 3, the screen touch response becomes very very slow, almost to the point where it will not respond at all. .. I look in the application manager and there are over 200 tasks running in the background. I kill off a good many of these apps and my acreen touch response returns, until Android starts back up the tasks I killed.. Eventually I get tired of killing tasks, so I reboot my tablet and it runs fine for a short time and as soon as it gets all the tasks running again.. the screen touch response degrades again. It is running Android 4.4 ...

Are you sure you don't have one rogue app in there which is affecting your response, rather than it being an effect of memory usage? I've never seen that sort of behaviour, even with my original phone which had half the RAM of your Tab.

I think you'll find some good troubleshooting tips in the thread mentioned.

It also goes into what can and can't be trusted in your built-in application manager - or more to the point - why it can't be trusted at face value. Don't ask me why the manufacturers stick those things in if they're wrong - I'm just the messenger.

Among those apps you've had identified by the system, one - possibly two - are misbehaving. From the symptom you describe, it's very likely that its cache needs deleting or it's got a bug and is hogging the memory all by itself.

In such a case, a task killer is doing nothing to a bunch of apps, might - might - hit the culprit and satisfy you that the response improved.

Leaving you probably still dissatisfied because no doubt you can still feel some lag or stuttering or other things.

The thread suggests some effective monitors to see where the problem may be - for example, GSam Battery Monitor and System Panel - and will give you the right background to understand what those apps are trying to report.

It's very likely a simple app problem hiding behind everything else that you can fix yourself and be done with it - as opposed to adding a bandaid app that fixes only a portion of the issue.

It's not one post but it's not a terribly long thread either. I recommend it from my 5+ years on Android going back to Cupcake, learning the hard way - and for the same reasons you have today. I hope the information will help you to protect your investment and make your device more enjoyable.

but it is true... you do NOT need a task killer.
earlymon is correct.

my recommendation.. is to go back to zero!
hardrest the tab.. to factory settings. that will get rid of all the apps you have loaded.
and should look like what it was when you purchased it.
Do not let it self load the apps back on.
let it reload all your contacts and info from google.
run the tab like this for 1-2 weeks. if you don't see any issues.. then android is fine.
no hardware or OS issues.

then.. load it your apps that you need.. NOT games.
and are well documented good apps. supported and have over 100k good reviews.
run it like that for a week. see if there are any issues.

if there are still no issues.. then you know.
it was some crazy app that was making your device bad.

load more apps but be careful! read and watch.

I'm not sure @EarlyMon will agree with this lol but I find the App Cache Cleaner widget useful on my 2012 tablet when things feel bogged down (especially the keyboard).
I think it's poorly coded apps (filling up?) the app cache.
Don't need it on my phone but that has 3gb ram.
So Emon what actually is the app cache and is it stored in ram (or a "partition" of the ram) ?

I will occasionally go into my system settings and clear some cached apps, but I never stop any tasks.

Most reasonably do - but some get out of control and will cache forever.

I had a browser keep that up until it wouldn't even load lol.

Otherwise, a well-designed app will have a well-designed cache access and you won't notice or care.

Just had my autistic 12yr old nephew mail me asking if I think a task manager is necessary in Android (he owns a nexus4 and navidia shield and is getting a 1+1 tomorrow, proper Android geek).
I told him no and linked him to the Lifehacker article @EarlyMon posted in another thread

I look for those that are abusing resources in general and if I care, check out the cache as a point of information.

I've never dwelled on it because unless you do an exhaustive search from your app manager, you can't see it without root.
