What's with all the trolling lately?

Are we just dealing with an influx of 45 year olds that live in their mother's basements and have nothing better to do with themselves or is the cynic in me right where we're getting attack dogs from Apple and Verizon to try to scare people away from the EVO?

People get jealous all the time and envy. As soon as people buy the Evo, something bigger will be around the corner. They just have their panties in a wad because they pulled the trigger on something just to find out, if they had waited they could be cool and get this phone. We that know what we want and are willing to wait will always have to put up with the trolls that have no life and want to bash others for not getting what they have. Oh well, just ignore them and they will go troll elsewhere.

I don't really get it. What is with the passionate offensive against a "cell phone"?

I mean really, I could understand if someone was trolling about a something political, religious, or actually important, but we are talking about a "cell phone".

I don't know if it is envy, disdain, a lack of a life, or what, but when you devote serious time to bashing a "cell phone", perhaps a re-evaluation of ones life may be in order.

I can't stand AT&T service. I left it 4 years ago and never looked back, but I don't have the time, energy, or desire to go find threads talking about AT&T service and take any opportunity I can find to bash it. If someone has AT&T and they like it, GOOD FOR THEM! What do I care?

Seriously, the phrase, "get a life" seems to be approaching a whole new level.

I honestly don't think age has anything to do with it. Its pretty much like anything else, esp sports teams. I can think on more than one occasion that adults fight over who has the better team. You feel like you are part of it, so when someone likes or talks about another team/phone/item/whatever, they feel the need to convert others. Its not about being immature, I believe its human nature. But of course, most are still civil, just the zealous ones that need to step back and say, this is just a friggin cellphone.

Actually I do think age has something to do with it. A lot of the zealot Incredible/Verizon fanboys are kids stuck as an extra line on their Mom's contract. They don't have any choice over their carrier. So they will bash EVO/Sprint because they couldn't switch even if they wanted to.

Many (most?) grownups have a choice of carriers, and are open-minded as to what phone + carrier decision is best for them.

Not always the case, some are just attention seekers (no age required), others just want their phone to be number one and can't stand the fact that they're now under contract and a new phone is coming out on another carrier that totally crushes that concept.

See, but that's the funny thing. Who knows how long the EVO will be top dog? Either way I feel comfortable with the idea that I will get to use it for at least a year (sprint Premium 1 year upgrade deal), or if I'm "stuck" with it for a full 2 years, it will be more than I could have ever hoped to have in a cell phone.

6 weeks ago I was beyond stoked to be getting a Droid Eris for free on Wirefly with my new every 2 on Verizon, then when I started looking at "smart phones", I found out about this forum, the incredible, and the EVO. Now I'm willing to wait another 6 weeks (?), fork out at least $99 and most likely more, to get my hands on this crazy phone called an EVO.

But I realize that there will be better phones coming all the time, I don't begrudge someone else that has them. Heck for the last 2 years, I have had an ENV2 which I got for no cost, and was a bit jealous several months ago that I didn't have a Blackberry, but I've still been just fine and the ENV2 has been an awesome phone for what I got it for, both cost and function.

It's the "greater internet f---wad theory"

Normal person + anonymity + audience = Total f---wad!

The more people this forum attracts the more there will be trolling and off topic stuff. Some forums like Somethingawful are popular enough that they can sustain themselves with very strict rules and membership costs that help maximize the signal-to-noise ratio. More public forums like this one depend on being open to everyone so you get the flip side every so often.

ironically
it's always guys
that i see fighting over the phones

there is a word for this
..."PENIS ENVY"

Not to split hairs but in Freudian psychology, wasn't penis envy something women suffered from? Like they were somehow envious of not having one on a subconscious level? If anything, it's the competitive nature of men that probably makes it a predominantly male thing. On some level we like to know we are the best (or in this lame case, buy the best personal electronics) :D

Yeah your right about the Freudian psychology aspect :)
(I'm a psych major)
but i was referring the male equivalent of penis envy aka
small penis syndrome
haha

to connect it to this thread, men who have small penises tend
to feel the need to overcompensate for their lack of size just like
men in these threads feel the need to bash the newest phone on the block
because it's bigger and better than theirs

I have never actually seen any women in the threads argue over the phones and what not. Always guys

You seem to be obsessed with penis size. Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar...or in this case, sometimes a bulge in a pocket is just a 4.3" cell phone.

(in other words, not everything revolves around our junk :D)
