Help Older sim drains battery more?

I read somewhere that older sim cards drain the battery more is this true and if so how old are the ones that do? And will my network just give me a new one if I request it?

In a nutshell, yes! O2 were really helpful. They highlighted to me that mine was very old and probably struggling to get a 3g signal, but always trying. Hence, draining the battery more. They said I could just walk into an O2 shop to get a new sim there and then. I did and it was active immediately, although they say it can take up to 24 hours, but never does!

For the first time, I was seeing the 3g icon frequently, compared to the old sim. After a day, I could notice around a 25% to 50% improvement in battery life.

I think my SIM was more than 4 years old.

actually, that's what tech support told me - (I think the tech support lady may have been having a hard time as she sounded peevish), but I walked into t-mobile store and they replaced for free.
