Incredible Signal problem?

I have been hearing about the bad service problem with the Incredible. Some people say it's just the UI and that the phone gets fine service. Others say it actually gets bad service.

Could somebody set the record straight on this one?

If it is just a UI problem will HTC be coming out with an update to fix it any time soon?

Its hard to tell with some people complaining they get bad call quality. My Incredible sounds great. Yes, it shows that I have 0-2 bars in most places but when I compare it to my girlfriends BB Storm she will have 3-4 bars. Now bars really don't tell you anything so I compare the dBm levels and my Incredible is always within a 5 number range as hers. Hers might display -55dBm and have 3 bars but mine will display -50dBm with only 1 bar. When I also make calls the quality is better on my Incredible. I have personally concluded that it is just a UI issue which I'm sure will be fixed in a future update.

Once again this is just my personal experience but I can guarantee you people will say they have horrible call quality in the same places they had perfect quality on their previous phones.

Thanks, right now I live in a very low service area. Can barley send a text message without climbing on top of grain bin. However we are supposed to get a tower within the next couple months and I'm moving to a large city mid June so I guess it doesn't matter much.

I have literally tested right near a VZW tower and do not get -50dB. Too much reporting and db readings (as well as performance tests) to stay in denial that the HTC either has an average (at best) radio, or a signal issue. Perhaps the voltage was stepped down on purpose due to battery life concerns. Would NOT be the first time this has been done.

Just because your right next to a tower doesn't mean you will get the best service. If you are too close to the tower the signal generally shoots over you. Unless the tower is pointed straight down.

I'm getting absolutely terrible call quality and signal strength and I live in a highly populated metro area. I never had a single problem with ATT. I don't think it is verizon cause I have tested it with my girlfriend's and coworkers' phones. The problem is clearly the handset. They have a replacement coming my way. Hopefully that one doesnt have the same issue.

Hand placement seems to affect the Incredible pretty bad. The main antenna is in the bottom of the phone, so if your hand blocks that your signal will drop a fair bit. Personally, I hold the phone with index and thumb around the middle, maybe a little towards the top, with the palm turned a little away from the phone. Slightly unusual, but still natural enough.
