OK, so I am a complete noob to android... just complete noob will sum it up. I an an impatient complete noob. I'm gonna go ahead and root & flash my eris against my better judgement.
Now that you're caught up, is it necessary to have a pc to do so or would an installed file manager app be able to pull it off?
Also, I'm contemplating using Astro or EStrongs... could anyone enlighten me on their pros and cons? Or, is there a better file manager?
Is this thread even posted in the right section?

Since it sounds like you don't really want to get your hands dirty :p, I would recommend going here, where you can download a windows program to do essentially everything for you.

If you have any questions, feel free to check out the Eris Root sub-forum. Hope this helps and have fun! :)

1. you need either a pc or a mac.
2. astro is best for non rooted users, but once you root you will want to get root explorer that will let you edit the files in the root of your phone also.
3. anything that has to do with root should be posted in the root section

If you are on a PC use this app [Application] Eris Master Application [R00T] - update - xda-developers it makes the rooting process a lot easier on "N00bs". Just follow the directions on the thread so you can use it.
From a n00b to another n00b The rooting process is fairly easy, you shouldn't have a hard time with it especially with that app i linked you to.
