So I ditched my Iphone for a droid, and am loving it sofar, but the only thing I can't seem to figure out - is a way to access my computers files (music mainly) form my work wifi.

For windows phones and Iphones, there's hamachi, is there anything similar that works on a non rooted droid?

Eager to hear your reply!
Thanks!

Hamachi I believe is now owned by logmein and they just added there app as beta in the market. So if you want it you may want to grab it ASAP as I believe they plan to pull it when they have a certain amount of installs.

This is a great example of an app that's so dang cool despite the very real possibility that I'll never have a use for it, haha.

You've never been away from home wishing that you had the movies/music that you have at home? I mean, at a friends house and decided to watch a movie, hear a song or anything like that?

I get that every single day, and my only alternative is to carry around an external hard drive. I envy you.

I downloaded logmein and gave it a shot... I don't see an easy way to access files through that setup. It looks to be nothing more than a control for your desktop. For that purpose, phonemypc is FAR superior. At least with phonemypc, you have the option of running scripts and commands and stuff. Gmote gives you access to your music from anywhere, but it is a royal pain in the ass to set up for access via WAN, and it is insanely temperamental. Half the time I can't get it to work.

Actually my thing is that I'd love FILE access to my PC, but having this sort of "remote desktop" thing is more novelty than useful for most, I'd wager. Give me a simple file browser, sure.

That and with 24GB total of storage on the thing, I really can carry MOST of what I need.

Just looked on their website...
Ignition for Android Beta program is available in US, CA, UK, AU, NZ only.
:(
Is there a way around this? :p
Probably not. Sorry.
Sure there is! (For free unprotected apps, at least...)
  1. Have somebody with access:
    1. download&install it
    2. back it up or otherwise grab the APK file
    3. send it to you
  2. Install it locally.
This works just fine, it's how I get access to the official LastFM client. Shiny.

Since when is hamachi just remote desktop? It's supposed to be a file browser....

Also - you can play remote media on your phone with gmote? isn't gmote just a remote control?

Haven't tried gmote. And I have LogMeIn's Ignition installed. I'd love to be able to access my PC's files, but I'd really prefer not to do it via total remote access, y'know? Let me look at what's on my HD, don't make me do it by controlling my mouse cursor via the phone.

I have DropBox now, but with only 2GB of storage it's mostly for backups of stuff. Ah well.

I didn't realize that the Hamachi client for android was just an RDP of sorts.

I was hoping it was like the windows version, which is simply a file browser. Is there not any way i can access all my computer data at home (hundreds of gigs) on my phone somehow?

The logmein product available in beta right now is the "ignition" remote desktop. I haven't found a beta program for the Hamachi VPN file sharing product. Hopefully that will come soon!!!

If you just want file access you my want to look into homepipe. They too just came out with an android app.
