Any good SMS/MMS apps?

srry if this has already been posted i looked at the search windows to see if there where some related ones and didnt find any. i was wonding if there was any good SMS/MMS apps out there that dont make your phone laggy and is there a way to make it so like Chomp or Handcent comes up in Advanced Task Killer instead of stock messaging. in other words can i make it so my stock messaging app donesnt even start up and my Market app is there. also is there a good keyboard app that is better than the stock one and again doesnt make my phone laggy. thank you and srry about makeing it wordy just wanted to be specific.

I have used Chomps for quite awhile and love the way you can customize. there is even a widget for it that I don't use but it is an option. I don't use ATK anymore but I don't think there is a way of keeping stock apps like mail, peep and footprint from opening and showing up in atk, unless you root and delete those programs. Swype is a great replacement keyboard for the stock keyboard. Search the forum and you can find a link to download. It takes a bit to get used to it but once you do it is the best and hasn't been anymore laggy for me than the stock one.

Def agree with mc on the Swype. Thought the concept was weird at first, but then I downloaded it and used it. Now I don't think I could do without it!

Rather than Chomp, I've been using Handcent for quite some time and love it. +1 on stock app running at startup. I don't know of a way to keep it from running, would like to know if there is a way though.

How did you get your Handcent transparent in conversation mode? I can't seem to find it in the settings.

Its not transparent. You can set an image to the background of the conversation list. I've only used handcent briefly, but I did see that in the menu somewhere

try looking at your conversations and hit menu. Should be an option for drafts there.

What version of Eris are u running?

It's actually the HTC Incredible - I just thought the app would be the same for both phones? Does it change depending on phone? Both are HTC, running sense, I assumed the apps would be performing similarly, especially where the darn drafts go!

It's not the little "draft" icon that I get for each person either. Like I was typing a text to my bf, hit back, and it was still there. But if I EXIT the app it will say "message saved" just trying to find where all these mysterious messages are going! o.0 lol

Every time I have done this, it is still in the compose window of the conversation when I reopen the program. That's in fact an annoyance to me because if I've done that, by the time I go back to it I don't want to say what I was saying so I have to delete it out of the compose window to start over.

AdmSuvvuk is right. When you open handcent, you have a list of past conversations. Any conversation containing a text saved as a draft will have the word "draft" in red letters next to it. Selecting that conversation will open up the compose window with your text still there waiting to be edited or sent. I believe this is the case with both Eris and Incredible.

If I understand what you are asking, you want to rid yourself of the stock mms app from the active app list or keep it from running, right?
if so, root your phone and delete the Mms.apk and Mms.odex and the application will no longer exist and therefore cannot run. The only down side to this I have heard is it takes about 2 seconds longer to receive your text notification when you receive a text message. I deleted my mms.akp and everything else I don't use after rooting my phone, and I must say I enjoy the peace of mind that removing what I consider bloatware or useless programs running in the background gives me. I think it makes the phone faster too...

and i agree with rthibeault because swype is FREAKIN AMAZIN i suggest everyone get it and use it plus its alot faster than your stock keyboard

as far as messaging app, chomp is good and so is handcent the single reason why i dont have handcent is because chomp is less memory and has a widget so i guess thats actually two reason lol but thats all.

Tried that but for some reason i cant get it to work, i have swype checked marked in settings and so is unknown sources is checked and when i try and reply to something to get it to come up it just comes up with the stock keyboard instead of swype. how would i go about fixing this?
