Thinking of using 2.1

Right now I am running Fresh 1.1, Gumbo Kernel 0.31, with SetCPU

Since I'm already rooted, I'm thinking of going to DamageControl 2.08.1, but I had a couple questions first.

1.) I know it is personal choice, but does DamageControl 2.08.1 have a distinct advantage over Fresh 2.0d?

2.) I should only need to push the file to my SD card, wipe the phone (How to do this?), and then flash the new image, right?

3.) The known issues thread seems to be out of date. Can anyone tell me if there are any known issues with DC right now that I may encounter?

I was holding off until today, and I still may hold off until Friday, May 14th and see if the official version is out by then - but I wanted to explore this way as well.

Thanks!

It's slight, some cosmetic, some functional (apps built in, etc.). The biggest difference, I think, is the autoupdater that's in DC. I like the look/feel of Fresh, but it's strictly personal.

2.) I should only need to push the file to my SD card, wipe the phone (How to do this?), and then flash the new image, right?

When you boot into recovery (hold down the Home key when you press the power button) it is one of the options. Also, MAKE A NANDROID BACKUP (again, one of the options) before you wipe and flash. Other than that, yes, you have the idea.

3.) The known issues thread seems to be out of date. Can anyone tell me if there are any known issues with DC right now that I may encounter?

Some issues, just like the stock 1.5 has some issues. Many of them are obscure, and you may or may not be affected by them. If they do affect you, there are usually workarounds. If they turn out to be unworkable for you, you can try another ROM, or just go back to 1.5.

I was holding off until today, and I still may hold off until Friday, May 14th and see if the official version is out by then - but I wanted to explore this way as well.

I think it's worth exploring, even if the official version comes out soon. You have more options, even if you do decide to go with the official version.

Yeah, they all have issues of some sort, but they are worth trying out. It's hard to answer which is better. Since you are already rooted, the best thing to do is check out the dev's thread at xda to see if you even like the screen shots or if any issues are around that you know for sure would keep you from using that ROM. Then download the ones you like and try them out. Going back is always just a restore away. :)

this is the forum where all their mods are listed. So long as you stay away from the experimental ones based off Eris or My Touch 3g Slide then you should be good to go. Oh, and don't try to use setCPU with 2.1. Won't work and the power management is built into the kernel now.
