And since Cleariwre is owned by Sprint you can expect Sprint to be doing the same thing. This would mean that the EVO 4g's support will dwindle to nothing as they stop building out WiMax infrastructure and actually convert the existing infrastructure to support LTE.

With that in mind, I'm really worried about the viability of the EVO. If Sprint stops building out their WiMax network in favor of LTE than the main selling point of this phone becomes moot.

What do you guys think? Would people be better off going with the Incredible and just dong an upgrade in a year when Verizon's LTE phones are out and their network is online, or should they take a risk on the EVO that might end up not having a 4g network to support it a year from now.

In my world the 4G isn't the main selling point of the phone, just a nice bonus if I'm in a location where it works. Most people on Sprint will have a phone upgrade avaliable in one year anyway. So, nothing you said should would make going with an Incredible a better idea. Kinda feels like convincing people to not buy EVOs was your goal from the way yoou worded your post...

So true. Where i live, 4g isnt coming in a while, but that isnt stopping me from getting this phone come august. 3g is still nice in my area and this phone still shines to me.

Now to the OP, you do know the towers can DUAL CAST, right? Meaning broadcast LTE and WiMax?

The network??? They have the second largest network in the country. You should be complaining about AT&T, not Sprint for their network.

Horrible article. The author took one statement about interoperability between the two technologies, and blew it up into a "Clear is dropping Wimax" article. This is NOT the case. Wimax is here to stay. In fact, Wimax will be used to backhaul LTE data in larger metropolitan areas. More info is coming soon, but the buildout on this thing is pretty far ahead of what everyone thinks. The broad amount of spectrum that it has allocated will make it a much better option than LTE.

Really? That's news to me. From every article I've read it seem like Sprint was putting all of its eggs in one basket with WiMax, even trying to get it added to the official standards for 4g techs.

In fact, why would they be building this more expensive dual cast WiMax/LTE network when a singlecast LTE network would undoubtedly be cheaper?

yes i was under the impression that sprint was building a WiMax network and verizon was building an LTE network.

then i heard that LTE would be the standard for ATT and such as well so then i was like ... hmm maybe sprint is going to have more trouble in the future...

There is no sharing. Sprint leases the ability to use some of the vzw towers just like altell did. All your networks are belong to us lol

Actually they both lease towers from each other in places where not both of them have service. But also they don't share all towers just most. they want exclusive coverage in some areas.
