Oh Another Thing The HTC Guy And The Verizon Mgr Said ..Advanced Task Killer....

I just ask that everyone who believes in task killers to give their phone a try without one for a week....see how they like it. If it works out great and if not still great. I've been down that road and I firmly believe they are NOT needed at all and can be counter-productive in many cases unless your an "app hog" and have the "common rogue app" go bonkers on you.

I tried one out for a few days. I had no problems but figured it was free so I tried it. I ended up removing it as it was more of a battery hog than the apps it was managing. As far as battery life, I turn it on at around 9am and at around 1am it is around 50%. I still ended up ordering the Seido 1750mAh battery cuz it never hurts to have more battery or even a second battery.

I don't understand why I'd use one. I had it but deleted it. The phone never slows down and programs close on their own. Why should I kill them? My battery life has ended up being pretty good after a few days. I know apps die because Engadget for example will reload from the beginning screen most of the time when I go in to it.

Task Killing was a necessity during the G1 days and its use is debatable on the Motorola Droid. I've tried it for a while on the Incredible, and I tried it without it, Auto Killers are no longer needed. I would be pissed if anyone was installing shit on my phone before I bought it. **** this guy.

Had one on my Eris....decided not to install it on my DInc. Running really well without it and getting pretty good results from my battery.

Hubby's DInc, had a faulty Holster/Shell combo from Verizon that made the DInc crash to the ground, causing the power button to fail at times. He took the phone down to the Verizon store for replacement and while the woman was "troubleshooting" she told him he NEEDED to have this app called ATK on his phone. Hubby is not the techno geek that I am and said "Sure...whatever" and then called me. I told him he didn't need it, but not to worry, I would take it off tomorrow, as he was heading in to work the midnight shift. Called me at work that evening because his alarm failed to work....ATK killed it. Uninstalled as soon as he got home this morning.

yeah, they definitely should NOT be installing ANYTHING unless they get permission first. Having worked in tech support for as long as I have, it disgusts me when I get that person who says "your rep installed it, so you should support it (or troubleshoot, or... or...)" and I have to say, "It's a 3rd party application, we do not have any support. I'm sorry they installed it, but I can help you remove it." Which then turns into it's own big thing, of course, when they ask "what will happen if I don't have it??"

I agree it is counter-productive, I just uninstalled it... We'll see what happens. I was thinking the same thing when the sales person installed the task manager on my phone, that's my decision to make, not Verizon. They should at least ask.

There must have been some directive from Verizon or HTC to the stores to do this.

That is total BS, no VZW employee can/will install any software without the customer say so. Quit spreading crap dude

OK, It's not "BS". Got mine at Verizon in Junction City Kansas and the girl who sold it to me and helped me installed it on my phone then told me after she installed it ,without asking me, she installed it and to to use it because it will extend the battery life!!

Wife MOTO Droid kept locking up and we had to keep pulling battery out, so we took the phone to the LexingtonKy. Store and the service rep installed ATK on it. We have not had anymore lock up with it. Now whwhen I picked up my incredible, they never tried to install anything just had me set up phone to gmail and I was on my way.

then you should have (snip BS)

You should not call BS when you don't know anything, and then go on to BS.
