SE support, updates, service etc

my initial doubts about the x10 were over its specs, such as no multitouch and an apparently slow sticky interface

now they are more about Sony Ericsson and how well they will support the phone with software updates etc. Several bad indications:
- Complaints have been made in the past about SE sucking at this for other phones
- Phone was due out Jan 18. Arrived more than 2 months later
- Phone came out with an old o/s (1.6) while other phones came out with 2.1 at the same time.
- SE have said they wont provide an update until the end of the year!! incredibly slow. By then android 2.8 will be out. pathetic

i want to get a well supported phone that is going to improve and evolve.

2.8 by the end of the year.. you'l be lucky more like 2.3 early 2011.

Slow interface are you joking? have you even used one? it does everything effortlessly.

SE's 1.6 is not much different to standard 2.1

And SE's 2.1 will no doubt have extra things that arn't part of standard 2.1

For example the X10 will be getting HD Video Recording with the next update thats not part of standard 2.1 and the nexus still probably won't have that even though it will be on 2.2.

As for doubts over spec, your basing everything on the ability to touch the screen with 2 fingers at the same time.....

What about the brilliant screen and camera?.

You want ? so you have'nt actually brought the phone and you want a phone that updates from google quicker.

Therefore this thread is pointless buy a Google Nexus One and you'l be happy.

the x10 will get 2.1 nine-twelve months after it was released. id hope for 3-6 mths. lots of android fones have 2.1 now

i like the fone. id prefer multitouch but i can live without it (i dont game and this should solve zooming: http://androidforums.com/sony-ericsson-xperia-x10/61781-sony-ericssons-answer-multitouch-nice.html)

ive used it. i found the interface a bit slow and unresponsive - i had to press hard and it wasnt as slick and responsive as the iphone

all fones have issues. my main concern over the fone is will SE fix them quickly as well as provide o/s updates?

Sony Ericsson Xperia? X10 to get UXP upgrade in Q4 2010 | Product Launch Blog
"Some examples of user benefits that will be included in the UXP upgrade for Xperia™ X10 in Q4 2010 are:
- Upgrade to Android OS version 2.1
- HD video recording as per the same execution as Sony Ericsson Vivaz™
- Wireless home connectivity via DLNA
- Improvements to signature applications Timescape™ and Mediascape to make them even smarter and richer

I would also like to emphasise that there will be an additional smaller software update, already in the next couple of weeks aiming to enhance the usability and performance of Xperia™ X10. In the next post, I will share more details and precise timings for when this update will be released.

As i have already said SE's "tweaks" to 1.6 means that 2.1 does not have a great deal of extra functionality.

And i am guessing SE will add extras to 2.1 like HD video is one.

Yes the X10 is getting a update after close to a year but since your a Iphone user/ ex user then Apple take about that to give you simple things like copy & paste so whats the problem?.

hmm you really should'nt press hard on a capacitive screen its very sensitive a light touch works.

SE will update the phone the 2.1 update is now confirmed but like any company thats added their own interface ontop of android so thats Sony, HTC, Samsung and Motorola then it takes longer compared to if you just brought the Nexus.

If your not bothered by the better camera and bigger screen and you seem to want quicker updates and a faster UI i would go for the Nexus One rather than the X10.

Thing is with s.e they want to push there there own u.i which overlaps the android 1.6 firmware so that's why there not rushing the update because they want us to become accustomed to THERE(s.e) ux(user experience) and by adding in timewaste(*cough*)scape.... and mediascape they(s.e) feel you are pretty much getting everything the 2.1 update has .....as the previous post said.... s.e's 1.6 version has a few features that 2.1 has and when WE get the outdated 2.1 I can assure you we will have features that were not on the actual. 2.1 update that I got for my milestone.....I have mentioned in other posts that I recently had the moto milestone.. running 2.1 and I switched to the x10.. and have not went back.... my milestone is now officially a paper weight... ohhh..... and as for the pinch to zoom multi touch....... don't even really miss it I got used to s.e's version pretty quickly..

i would touch and try do stuff and it didnt respond. i had to touch carefully.

I wouldnt say the N1 has a worse camera - at least it has a proper flash!

The N1 isnt the competition. This is:
HTC EVO 4G is Sprint's Android-powered knight in superphone armor, we go hands-on -- Engadget
(X10 is by far the most beautiful fone out there tho)

The N1 does'nt have a bad camera but its not as good as that of the X10 which is the best camera on a Android phone so far.

As for the flash SE will make the LED on the X10 useable as a flash once the update comes. (But too be honest all camera phones will be poor in low light unless they have a Xenon flash)

The EVO 4G is only gonna be avaliable in America so unless your American i would'nt bother looking at that phone.

i swear i saw a guy on the bus today using the evo 4g. screen was massive. no idea how he had it

i dont live in the US but y cant anyone buy it unlocked online and ship it?

He probably had a HTC HD2 looks similar and has a 4.3 screen as well.

You can't use the phone on GSM networks its a CDMA phone and no Network in the UK supports CDMA.

im in aus, but same deal
wen will they release a gsm version of the evo?

Your guess is as good as mine, Not only are the Americans gonna get the EVO but they have also recently got the HTC Incredible which is alot like the Desire but it has a 8 Megapixel camera.

Maybe later this year or early next we will hear of something for us on GSM?.
