File police report Asurion

So today in Fifth period someone stole my phone. I am going to file a police report but I need to know if i need to get a copy of the police report to fax to Asurion. Also I am doing the claim online so how will i give them my police report.

And i had to pull out the Incredible today...

Call Assurion rather than file online. I've done both and I actually prefer calling. Anyway, they will tell you what you need to do and when.

If you report it stolen yes.... they will ask for a police report.

If you are filing a police report, it should be easy enough to get a copy.
IMO, it's easier to just say it's lost.... then no report needed.

But ofcourse, i'm sure you wanna catch that SOB!!!!

I dunno why morons steal CDMA phones. If the line is deactivated, the phone is deactivated. You can't put a new number on there. On GSM phones, just switch out the SIM and you're good to go. Sure, they can track the phone, but most carriers don't.

A friend of mine found a brand new iPhone 3GS just sitting outside a bar on the floor. Picked it up, he had AT&T to begin with, and now he has an iPhone, albeit without 3G. He's had it since September of last year or so and has yet to get into trouble with it.


Off-tangent, I know, but I still wonder what goes through their heads when they steal it? Sell it? Then that schmuck gets stuck with a bum phone.

Coming from the cable company, I see our cable boxes being sold on ebay ALL the time. They WILL NOT work. But morons buy it (and at good prices)... so morons continue to steal them.

If you're phone was stolen, you need to file a police report whether you need it or not.

It probably won't get your phone back, or the thief caught unfortunately. it will, however, enter the theft into a database that can be used to show trends. kind of like the census, this database is used to help idntify how many police are needed in any certain area when budget time rolls around.

Unreported crimes do not exist. Where crimes don't exist, prevention isn't planned. Criminals know where there is no prevention, because people don't report crimes, so.......

I completely agree, but things like cellphones, mp3 players, and GPS's are stolen at ridiculous rates that make establishing any sort of pattern extremely difficult. Honestly, no plan can prevent someone swiping your phone in the middle of school as happened to the OP (or like I've experienced finding your lock cut and locker emptied out ) I could list off my wacky experiences with Asurion and although I'm sure they will be happy to help you out, I feel that reporting it lost will be much, much quicker.

Having been through High School and now end of College, I see kid's electronics everywhere and hear about someone losing something all the time, it sucks this shit seems to happen more often these days. Since you already have the Incredible I'd say file the police report, if you didn't have an alternative phone, processing a lost phone claim rather than a stolen phone claim would take a lot less time IMHO.

Just make sure you install some sort of GPS tracker on your Incredible my man!....[not that I would] I could probably walk around my University Library right now and scoop up multiple laptops and cell phones if I wanted, these are the things I feel make the prevention planning impossible.

They were nice to me all three times that I have called (explanation on why I have called thrice: I have two teenaged kids.) However, I had all three phones the next day, not in a couple of days.

Also, the first claim I had was for my son's phone, which just would not turn on, after the warranty had expired. After trying to fill out the claim online, the web site would not allow the claim, since there was no accidental damage. When I called to ask about this, the woman asked me if the phone had ever been dropped, or perhaps was in a back pocket when my son sat down? I said that I know that he'd dropped it a few time. That was good enough for her, and she filed the claim for me.

So, yes, in my experience, Asurion's phone support people have been great.

I recently used their service and they were nothing but nice and professional. Several other companies I've dealt with recently could use some of their training.

In any type of customer service outfit, there are going to be a couple of rude people and then sometimes the people on the other line are such morons that they have to be talked to "rudely". You can't say that the whole company is rude.

I've gotten a crappy phone from them and have heard that from others. I was ready to say that Asurion is junk but a lot of people here report getting nice or new phones. YMMV

Well i was reading some reviews about their service and there was a lot of people on some random website i think it was pissedconsumer.com or something and Asurion didn't have a good rating at all.

Ohh and good luck with the possible root and 2.1 update.

Incredible still waiting on root lol..... whats taken us so long i might just go back and get the Moto droid lol jk

If you go to a site called "pissedconsumer.com" of course you are going to get nothing but bad news, thus the name.

Unfortunately, in todays world, a majority of people will say nothing about the service they received, unless it is to complain.

I've been in the Service Industry, in one form or another, for the past 15-20 years. People will say thank you to your face, and tell you you did a great job, but it rarely goes any further.

The best idea you had was coming here and asking what others thought of them. or the BB site, or sometimes even Consumer Reports. But, going to a site intentionally set up to complain about service received will make you think even Santa Claus is a rotten bastard....

As have I. And now I work in a children's hospital, and the thanks are just as far and few between. People really take for granted what comes to their feet from the sweat of other's brows.
I must say that I see much more praise on this site than I ever experience in the real world, and I am really glad for it. The statistic I heard in management was always "a bad experience travels 50 times farther and faster than a good one." That is why it takes so much work to keep people happy.
So I'll just take this opportunity to thank all those that work for the benefit of others as selflessly as many do here on the android forums. I try to be very thankful throughout my roaming, but a general shout out is always in order.
