Alright, so I am a huge cell phone geek. I go through 3 or 4 different phones a year. I have been using the N1 since it came out for AT&T and really do not have much to complain about. Then the DI came out, last week I ported over to Verizon ( I was a long time verizon customer until last August when I bought the iphone). So within the area I live, the coverage between the ATT and VZW are pretty much equal, in fact I might give ATT the upper hand by a slim margin. I got the DI and took it home, first problem 1 bar or no bars. The first few calls I made were choppy and muffled. I gave it a day and the call quality was fine but still the signal was really low. I then started reading where a lot of people are having the same issue. People are saying its a cosmetic thing, a software bug etc. Bottom line a phone should not go out to the public with a "bug" like that. I know that this is not a bug, because when I left the phone in my pocket I lost service and my battery was draining (remember VZW coverage in my area is fine). I went back yesterday, swapped the phone for a new DI. Unless the store I went to had a bad batch of phones the DI has signal issues. Pretty much the same issue. Signal would jump to 4 bars, then no bars, then 3 bars and no bars etc. I was willing to live with that because the phone mainly the HTC sense is really neat. However, I hit another issue, the phone will not send MMS to ATT customers!!!! WTF???
So, Last night I ported back to ATT and the N1 is running great per usual.
Just as an FYI, the BIG difference between the N1 and the DI, is the memory. Between the 8 gb of internal memory and the RAM the DI screams. I am hoping that a future google release will allow us to store a lot more information the SD card (with out rooting) so that frees up some resources on the N1.
Hope this helps anyone who was on the fence of jumping over the VZW.
