Should posting in the intros forum count towards your post tally?

Should posts in the intro thread count towards your total?

Simple question really. I have noted in the intros thread the same users posting the same repetitive greeting to new members over and over again. This is a quick way to rack up posts and make your post count look more impressive, (in other boards I have used people obsess on this for some reason), than it ought to be.

My belief is that post count should be representative of how many useful contributions a member has made. On other boards posts in the intro section don't count towards your total.

So vote yes: Posts should count
or no: Posts should not count

Feel free to add your thoughts too :)

Doesn't matter to me either way.
The problem is "...representative of how many useful contributions...." that's subjective.
a post is a post

I accept that, perhaps I could have worded that better.

Consider this...

Two users each with 100 posts...

User 1 has racked up 100 posts in the intros thread

User 2 has racked up 100 posts in the HTC Desire thread

Who is contributing more?

Someone taking the time to welcome 100 new users by posting in their intro threads contributes far more to Android Forums's PR than 100 posts in an obscure sub-forum. ;)

I respectfully disagree, posting in an on topic thread (related to android) is creating food for search engine spiders and help to people who come here for help. That is a win win in my book.

Posting "welcome to the forums" or a variant of that 100 times in the intro section doesn't really do either. People will inevitably welcome new members in the intro section, of course, but spamming it....even with good intention....i don't think should increase your post count.

I usually give a user a big welcome when I see that they are a new Nexus user on the N1 forum ^_^ I think welcoming them by helping them on an issue they have is much more appreciated by them imo.

Though when I am bored, I do go to the intro forum and include links to threads I found very helpful when I was an Android noob when I post my welcome :D

Edit: OH...if they say what phone they are using, I include a link of that phone's subforum!

the bulk of the replies in the intro section though, are none of those things....i can count 20ish post right now by the same user, all copy and pasted.

That's exactly the point I was (badly) trying to make. Personalised welcomes are great but generic copy and paste jobs for the sake of it mean nothing. I guarantee some of those people couldn't care less about making people feel welcome. If they did they would post something personalised.

I have not read this thread..

We talked about this a while back and decided to keep it as is as to not discourage helping people feel welcome.

This may change.

Perhaps we should turn it off and make a "welcoming committee" usergroup, or something.....

I'm signing up if you're going to set one up ;) lol...well if I don't hear anything back from being a phoe guide...or this could be an extension of a phone guide? I still don't know what a phone guide does though. lol
