Accessories Phantom Skinzzzz

Was just wondering if anyone else put on a phantom skin for their DI...I am new at the whole "get your protector wet" application and am trying to figure out how long it takes for the moisture trapped in the screen to dissipate so it is clear. I really hope I didn't do it wrong, as it is mostly clear, but still pockets of a "cloudy" look. Any help is MUCH appreciated!!

I ordered one of the matte ones but I haven't received it yet. I've used the Invisible Shield/Best Skins Ever skins a lot though but I assume the installation is similar with the Phantom Skinz. You really don't want to use too much water, just enough to to moisten the skin. Also, once you get the skin applied, it's recommended that you wait 18-24 hours for the phone to set. This makes a pretty big difference in how the phone looks when it's done right.

I installed mine last night and when I woke up it was perfectly clear. Just use the tool that they give u and try to scrap as much of the moisture you can out of it. I have to say I am very happy with the way it turned out, I would definitely recommended it.

I just put one on mine. I have installed plenty of Zaggs on the mDroid's and I gotta say, this PS was much harder to install. Harder to line up, harder to get it to stick, but much easier to remove air bubbles. I had to squeegee the hell out of the Zagg's.

But here I am 48+ hrs later, and I can hardly tell it's there. I gave it to a buddy and he didn't even notice it.

If you're still seeing bubbles 24 hrs out, then maybe you ought to do a reinstall.

I'm thinking that Zagg may be a little more durable and offer a little more protection, but PS looks and feels better. The extra protection provided by Zagg may be negligible.

I just peeled the matte finish off of mine. I couldn't believe they sent a matte finish screen protector. After 24 hours, the screen was blurry due to the texture of the skin. I thought it would be matte for the body and clear for the screen.

I do have PS screen protectors on my kids Dare, Eris, wife's Chocolate and I just ordered the regular screen protector for the Incredible. No complaints with sensitivity, clarity, or durability.

The matte finish isn't as cool as I thought it would be. I think it was designed to hide scuffs and scratches. I may wait for the Chromatics to come out for the Incredible.

Well mildly disappointing results, however it was definitely my lack of research that caused it. After looking at the website (of course after I already installed the sp), it says to "only use a drop of soap/shampoo per 32 oz's water!?!. In everything I saw before installing my app, they put a drop in a cup and called it a day with no problems. So of course, it screwed mine up, causing soap to be caught under the screen and that "blurry" look did not dissipate at all.

With all this being said, however, I do have a 2nd chance to get it right! Hopefully I will get it right this time....I am terrible at stuff like this, which is why I didn't go into surgery ;)

Well thats interesting because im terrible at surgery which is why i dont do well with installing skins for my phone

haha sorry, little morning humor

I installed my phantomskinz a few days ago. Used them on blackberries in the past and they were honestly the best skins compared to Zagg and BestSkinsEver skins. I actually just use a drop of soap with some water in a dish, probably way more soap then recommended but it usually turns out fine. Barely even know that the skin is there, except it looks like I have a little iddy biddy thread at the bottom corner of the screen from the paper towel i used to wipe down the phone. Although no one else notices it ... i do lol. But oh well, i can live with it :)

Yeah I pretty much agree with ya. After I finally got everything installed, I turned the phone on and the screen looked horrible. I recommend NOT getting the matte skin for the screen because it really makes things hard to see. I still have the matte skin on the back and it does add more grip (maybe even saved me from dropping it this morning) but I'm gonna use this junky Verizon screen protector until one of the better ones come out.

My phantom Skinz is going on 40 hours and the hazy cloud look didn't go away. I'm very disappointed to say the least.

just peel it back half way...lightly mist it with water....slowly work it back down from the center with the application tool...wipe away excess water. then do the same for the other half.

you will be happy....trust me. ;)

After 24 hours the "cloudy-ness" has improved but its still there if you look for it. Virtually invisible if you glance but if you put it up to light at the right angle you can notice it. I'm sure it was because of the soap, I also put a drop into about 15 oz of water as opposed to what I saw in a previous post in this thread (32 oz.?). I used both skins but luckily I got the best results with the second one. I figure I spent less than $8 shipped and when I got invisible shield for my Storm it was at least $12 (for 1) so I still saved some cash. At the end of the day I guess I could always give it another try...

I used a cup of warm water and drop of dawn dish soap. I did not mix the soap with the water, but allowed it to dissolve for a minute. There was still a drop of dish soap at the bottom of the cup. I dipped the skin in the water for about 10 seconds so that the backing was soaked. I peeled off the backing then applied. I used the card from center outward removing all the bubbles. I let it dry overnight (about 8 hours). I cleaned off the little bit of haze the next day with glass cleaning solution from Sun Glasses Hut. It looks perfect and crystal clear.

I'll try that later tonight. But now that I think about it, I wonder if the previous vzw screen protector was the cause of this. I took the vzw protector off cleaned it with a lint free cloth then applied PS. In hindsight, I probably should have cleaned it with alcohol first too clean off any residue the previous screen protector might have left.

So far, I like this one better than Zagg because my fingers slide smoothly on it. However, after numerous tries, I have come to the conclusion that I will not be able to get it perfect and well enough has got to do.. I finally have it so there are no hairs or dust over the screen, so I will leave it alone.

I have the Zagg as well and don't really like it. I love skype and it is very difficult to use with the Zagg protector. I'm sure Zagg works as advertised, but I much rather prefer a protector that will allow a smooth sliding/swyping experience. Wish I could return it to BB!

So maybe I will give PS a try.

Update:

I emailed customer service @ Phantom Skinz about the haze I'm getting on my screen and asked if it was ok to just reapply. They emailed me back and said the affects are not great if I did that. She also said she would ship me out another set today free of charge. :)

Thanks for the update...
I finally installed my 2nd screen about 30 mins ago, and still notice a little of that "soapy" haze look. I use a TON of water (whole large mixing bowl full) and a tiny drop of the baby soap they recommend in the package. Again, I will give it overnight, but if it remains, I will probably be e-mailing them as well. I feel INCREDIBLY ridiculous that I even have to have these conversations, but I really want a solid protector, and it done right. Thanks to everyone for continued progress and/or gripes.

I have the same issue (some soapy haziness) after about 24 hour dry time (the first one I totally screwed up and I am usually very careful). I called them and spoke with a very helpful guy who asked me how I did the install and said it could have been caused by some tiny bubbles being trapped underneath the screen. He said if it doesn't clear up by tomorrow AM to send them an email at 'contact at phantomskinz dot com' and they'll send me out two replacements free of charge. I am super impressed by their customer support.

It was most likely user error on my part since this is the first time I have attempted an install, so no fault of the product as far as I can tell.

Hopefully I'll have better luck the second time around. Thumbs up to Phantomskinz!

I know this is a dumb question to ask but I just don't want to mess up my Inc. After you all have installed the screen protector from phskinz did u all immediately turn the phone back on? Is there a period it should not have power. I saw the video on there site i think they said to wait. I just don't want water to damage my phone thanks..

Okay, so I am a little late in the game here, but here was my experience. First touch screen device for me of any kind, and I ordered the Phantom skinz after reading reviews and going against the Zagg because of others talking about the stickiness or orange peel look. So, got my Phantom Skinz delivered. Followed instructions in package, warm water (not cold or hot to the touch) and a drop of baby soap. My instructions said "baby" soap, and we have a 2 year old, so I happen to have a bottle of Johnsons Baby soap, so that is what I used. Put in one drop, let it sit a minute, dipped the protector in, and then I actually shook it off really well with a few hard flicks, to get most of the water off, then applied by lining up the bottom of the shield and phone, making sure the cut out for the track ball lined up, then rolled it up from there. Went on perfectly. Then I used the card, and squeegeed the excess out to the edges (away from the track ball and speaker at the top) Took me a few minutes with the squeegee, pressed down somewhat firmly. Ten minutes later, you can't even tell it is there. The top edges looked a little wavy until the next morning. Now, you won't even know it is there unless I told you, pefectly clear, no haze, no bubbles, looks like a standard DI with no protector on it. So, yes, you should be able to achieve the same result. If yours it not looking right after 24 hours, I would say re-apply, it should be crystal clear. In other words, don't be satisfied with it until you get it looking the way you want it to, I know it is possible. Hope this helps.

i installed the phantom matte and i think im going to remove it and install the phantom regular, but anyways, use a credit card to push the liquid out. u can do this even later after the thing has dried. i have a perfect stick, its just that matte causes some speckling and im not happy with that.

phantom does have an unusual method for sticking, but after looking at the way its stuck, i can tell u its way better than the zagg i had on my old phone. phantom literally becomes part of the phone.

The instructions they provide say to wait at least 2 hours, which is what I did. Waiting helps to set the skin anyway since there's less of a chance of things getting warped with the heat the phone generates.

Or something. :)
