Text messages coming from and going to random people!!

Howdy,

I have the HTC Hero from Sprint. Great little phone. I'm having issues with texting. Here's my scenario

I receive a text from Facebook stating someone wrote on my wall. The from id is 123456789. I then get a text from a friend George. In the list view of of my texts George's text showing under the Facebook number. When I press on the Facebook name it shows the text from Facebook then from George. If I reply it goes to Facebook not George.

It also happens under different users, appears to be very random and is causing issues as I'm trying to quickly reply, forget to check who it's going to, then I text someone something I shouldn't have. Not cool.

Any ideas how to fix it? I downloaded Handcent SMS as well and that is having the same issue so it appears to be a root droid issue. Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Do you get text alerts from Bank of America? Lots of people have noticed an issue with text threading because of that. If so, disable the text alerts.

yes, this is correct as i had this problem...its very annoying. i will add, after you stop bank of america from texting you, you have to hard reset your phone in order to make the threading get back to normal.

It's not just BofA, any messages you get via email to text...i.e. 123456789@sprintpcs.com or whatever will cause this bug. It's an old bug from 1.5 that was fixed in 1.6 and up.

I recently moved up to an HTC Incredible running 2.1 and it doesn't have this issue. I'm guessing 2.1 on your Hero won't have the issue either.

cool man...thanks for the insight. personally, i haven't had any issues with this since removing BofA - and i get quite a few different alerts (facebook, myspace, WoW, etc). but i suppose it's not a bad idea to put your info out there, in case the BofA deletion doesn't fix the person's problems.

Maybe those sites don't send emails but text your phone directly? Then it'll work fine. If you are crazy enough to break your phone to test you can do it yourself. Just send a blank email or with a word to your text email address. I think it's #@messaging.sprintpcs.com.

I can almost guarantee it'll screw up your texts from then on until hard reset.

Thanks all for your replies. I never recieved email notifs so I didn't see them earlier.

I have since factory wiped my phone and I didn't install the BoA app, but I still get BoA texts along with other sources. The issue is still occuring. I'm hoping Sprint will get their act together and release an update!

I don't think the problem is with the Bank of America app, its if you sign up for text alerts through their website
