Is the Price Fair?

I have heard that it will be $599. Now, I love this phone, but is it worth it? 600 bones is a ton. Is it possible for the price to come down by Q2 next year, at all, if this is truly the price?

Remember, that's just a rumor and also, the non-contract price. But yeah, prices always come down.. and at the rate these phones are coming out..

I think I've seen that price as well, however the thing to remember is that no official pricing has been posted anywhere yet.

The general consensus is that the $599 price would be the full retail, non-carrier-subsidized price. It's most likely that it will come out around the $200 range with 2-year agreement (new or renewal) in order to be competitive with the rest of the smartphone world. I'm hoping I'll be able to throw my new-every-two vzw discount at it as well, so we'll see!

I'd happily spend $200 on this phone. I've only paid full retail for a smartphone once, and I don't think I'll be doing it again anytime soon. I think that one was $720 for full retail, so $600 at that tier wouldn't be out of the ordinary. I don't know many people who spend full retail unless they're really unhappy with what they've got.

Yeah, I'll have to see if I can get an upgrade for this phone. As much as I want the droid, I'll not be spending full retail on it

It should be. When I upgraded my phone with Verizon in February this year, I got the same subsidized price as a new customer.

That isn't a bad price for full retail, and I am pretty positive they will have to make it $199 to compete with the iphone pricing. Also for anyone who is on contract and not eligible for a upgrade check out wirefly.com. If they carry the Droid you can, at any time in your contract, extend it for 2 years and get the new customer price. Just know that the way they can offer this is to gurantee you will keep the phone for 181 days, and that you cant downgrade the rate plan OR drop the data plan, also if it says you have to get a txt plan then you also cant drop it for 181 days. If you do any of that prior to 181 days you WILL be charged $300.

CRP - I think your right. I'm guessing 199.99 - 249.99 w/ yr agreement. It's typical for a $400 to $450 discount for a smartphone. Maybe not as much at first, but the rumor is Buy One Get One when it comes out. Well see about that. That would be pretty aggressive by Big Red.

People forget the BB Storm is $499 and it's $50 and BOGO right now. Also, don't forget that if your an existing customer, you may have a NE2 discount of $100, $50, $30 or a VIP discount of $50. Verizon is the only carrier I know or have worked for that gives existing customers a larger discount than new.

I switched to AT&T for the iphone, big mistake lol, but it worked it sorta good because I only paid $99 for a 3G 16gb and sold it for $460. I'm using a G1 now, counting down the days to the Droid release. I have a $100-50 coupon from VZW if I come back so I'm saving it for the Droid. I hope it's $199 w/2yr contract, seems like the right move with how public they are about this being iphone competition. If I have to pay $250 then I will because I love Android and this phone has the best hardware on the market right now.

CRP that's interesting. That coupon is a campaign that my department sends out. We also service the calls back on that campaign.

Common business sense says that there will be no "Buy one get one" as said before that is extremely uncharacteristic on verizons part, and also it just is a down right moronic business plan, I mean think about it, their not only giving away half their stock then, but also diminishing their already limited supplies of the phone twice as quick.

Yes, but to be honest the big red already has the status to where they dont have to offer a buy one get one even with a 2 year, people will sign up two phones on the two year sale or no sale. I would never expect them to offer it with or without a contract in any case on a phones opening day, and unless I'm mistaken, I cant think of a single "pioneer" phone which they have done that with.

Yea they are huuge so no need for the BOGO offer. I agree they never offered it on a phone like this before, but who knows. With the way they are going after the iphone they might pull some craziness, although I wouldn't agree with it from a business standpoint.

$600 isn't that much. American's are so stingey nah jokes, its a lot.
But that converted to Australian dollars would probably be around $680, if Australia was to sell that phone (which i doubt will happen, at least for some time) it would probably cost $900 +.
But that's beside the point.

The Droid looks to be an awesome phone and beats any other Android phone out there so I think it's worth the cost. Plus it is the thinnest slider QWERTY ever apparently (I think it looks a little flimsy though). Isn't that the same price as the N97 is/was at release? And this phone seems a lot better.
