Excerpt:

A small number of Droid Eris owners have already received the update and in about 24 hours we will begin to send to increasingly more customers. Customers will see a icon in the notification tab on the phone and much like an application update, they have to confirm the install."

The changelog is pretty intense, and Eris users should be plenty happy with the new features.

First and foremost is that the Eris will now support pinch-to-zoom in the Gallery app, browser, and Google Maps. Android 2.1 also brings in voice-to-text entry support for all text fields (and not just within voice search); support for multiple Exchange accounts; support for Yahoo! Mail; Google Maps with Navigation; and much, much more.

Eris users will also be happy to note that the update brings with it the latest version of Sense UI from HTC. That's excellent news. That includes the new Leap feature, which lets users quickly jump between the seven different home screens; the new Friend Stream application, and an improved weather application.

I'm not buying it. It seems others have already gotten it and they don't have pinch-to-zoom in Google maps or the voice-to-text on all text fields option either.

So you find a certain discreet sort of logic to keep yourself unhappy about something you have yet to receive.

You must be a joy to be around in the days leading up to Christmas.

how often are you really going to use Pinch and Zoom in google maps though? i mean yes its nice but it aint like O MY GOD I NEED IT nice and as for voice to text.. just use Handcent in my honest oppinion.

I kinda feel that way about a few of the items included in this update. Seems like there's a fair amount of "toys" and "candy"...

And just what benefit would they enjoy by intentionally misleading users about something like this?

This guy may have misspoke, or the two twelve year olds you checked with were wrong.
All I'm saying is that I think Verizon is misinforming customers about what they are getting.

It's apparently accelerating (the release numbers); I just got a call from a colleague in Oregon who received her OTA just a bit ago and is still loading in. She mentioned that her dad got his right about the same time, he had just called her from her mom's phone. He's in Idaho.

Seems like a good number of recipients thus far have been West Coast/Midwest. Interesting...
