i was wondering if anyone has come across an app that manages your android apps locally on your computer? i'm using appbrain, but that just tracks the apps and what not. all other apps seem to solely do media files.

i'm interested in something that keeps my downloaded apps stored on my computer which i can sync to my phone when needed. for example, i dont need half the travel apps when i'm not traveling. i'd like to keep my phone clutter-free, with the luxury of not having to re-download the app when i do need it.

thanks.

thanks... but, as my op states, i'm already using appbrain and it only tracks your apps... unless i'm missing some feature in it, it does not download apps to your computer at all and reinstalling something requires redownloading it... especially as apps begin to grow in size, i'd rather not have to redownload a 50mb all when i could have it stored on my computer and resync it.

Only thing I can suggest is to just keep the travel apps on your phone. Then got settings, personalize, scenes. Then press menu and save. Names youre scene. Then setup your homescreen with your travel apps on it the way you would use it when traveling and do the same. Then you can switch scenes when you travel to have all your home screens all setup with your travel apps and such. Then revert back to your regular saved scene when you are not traveling to have your homescreen setup without them. Unless youre critically low on app storage I wouldnt worry about deleting then and redownloading. This thing can hold a TON of apps.

Oops, sorry. Skimming too quickly.

I don't know of any automated program, but I'm pretty sure you can manually do what you want with a file manager like Astro. Copy the apk files to your PC as a backup and then copy them back to reinstall them.

Use astro and back-up your apps. connect your phone to the comp. navigate to the back-up folder of the phone. copy/paste from there into a folder of your choice on comp (*apps* for example). uninstall whatever you want from your phone. to put them back on phone, copy/paste from *apps* folder on comp to a specified folder on sd card. navigate via astro and install. or just keep all your apps on sd card. when you want to reinstall, use astro to navigate and install.

But app brain syncs your apps. So it does what he wants he is just not using it correctly.
It syncs up but you still have to download it. But when it syncs it just takes you there directly to the download so you don't have to look it up.

as my op states, i realize appbrain syncs, but i was looking for the ability to not re-download apps i previously downloaded but uninstalled... today apps are fairly small, but i fully expect them to get large like they did with the apple store as the market matures.

thanks for this great idea... i agree that the phone can store a lot, but i was 1. planning for the inevitably larger apps that will come, 2. it kind of sucks having to scroll through all of them to find that one i just installed to store on my desktop
