Help HTC Sync - Won't connect to my phone

Anyone figure out how to get HTC sync working on the Incredible yet?

I have a Dell laptop with Windows Vista Ultra 32 bit.

Here is what I have tried:
- I down loaded the latest version from HTC's site, ver 2.0.33.
- When I down load and install - the HTC Sync app will not start up due to missing dlls. The DLLs are there just not being seen.
- Through a web search I find a site that tells me to copy the DLLs to a different folder. I do that.
HTC Sync now starts up - but everything is grayed out.
- I connect the phone and select HTC Sync from the pop up. The phone looks for HTC Sync for a while before finally telling me HTC sunc can not be found.

- I then found that there is a slightly older version installed on the phone - ver 2.0.25.
- I uninstall 2.0.33 and install 2.0.25.
- The HTC Sync app starts up - but then after that the same results - no connection.

Any ideas on what else I can try?

I also installed the app "as admin" and I also disabled the Norton Firewall and Anti-Virus while it was installing.

Alternatively - is there a better way/app to sync my Outlook Contacts?

Thanks!

Glenn

Same problem here too. Cannot even get my computer to recognize the phone so I can browse the native memory or the sd card, let alone sync through HTC Sync. They show up as separate drives, but when I click them, I get a message to insert a disk into the drive and try again. I really hope they get HTC Sync going b/c I use Outlook for just about everything...

I do find it a bit strange that HTC has yet to release drivers or a version of HTC Sync specifically for this phone...

HTC has released an updated version of HTC Sync which is specifically designed to handle the Incredible. I installed it last night and it works fine. You do have to grab the status bar on the phone to switch between Charge Only, HTC Sync, Mount as Drive, or Mobile Broadband Connect modes. It is available here:

As mentioned in the original post - I tried 2.0.33 - no luck. I will try again at some point.

This is an updated version of 2.0.33. HTC emailed me about it yesterday after a week of going back and forth on this. I had previously installed / uninstalled / reinstalled 2.0.33 three separate times, none of which worked. I downloaded the file at the link above, installed it, and am now running fine. Give it a whirl - hopefully it will work for you. While the release number did not change, I do not know. I was a little suspect about this working due to it, but to my surprise (and happiness) it worked. I've now done a sync with Outlook 2007 with it, and also mounted the drives and opened them through My Computer. This is also the first time when the drivers were installed that it specifically mentioned the Incredible when going through that process.

Do note that to "change" modes, you have to pull down the status bar at the top of the screen, select the appropriate mode you want, and confirm it. If you are in HTC Sync mode, you cannot mount and view files on the drives. Likewise, if you are in mount or charge only mode, you cannot perform a sync and HTC Sync on your computer will show the phone as disconnected.

Good luck - I hope it works out for you.

No luck. I uninstalled my version of 2.0.33 and re-downloaded the version from above - then reinstalled it.

I believe you that they told it it was an updated version of 2.0.33 - but I do not believe them that it is. First of all the dates have not changed. Second - I have never seen any reputable software company release a new version of a product without upping the minor release number. No matter how small an update this version should have been at a minimum 2.0.34. Of course - it worked for you which is interesting in itself. For me - no change at all.

This is also the first time when the drivers were installed that it specifically mentioned the Incredible when going through that process.

I have wondered about this. I have been getting notices about it updating the driver every time I hook up the phone, and it usually ends up telling me it failed. This last time though it did tell me it succeeded and I needed to reboot to take effect.

However, the message was that my HTC device was installed, nothing about the Incredible. Any idea what these drivers are and how I could find and install them manually?

Thanks!

It connects fine for me, using the latest version from the HTC Incredible support page. However, when I click to sync, it initializes the sync, and stops, and says that it didn't connect to the phone, although it actually shows that it is connected.

In red it says :

Errors: 2 General

Error due to: No connection to the mobile phone.

Tried changing usb debugging on and off, and also got:

Erro due to: synchronization cannot be started.

I am not sure where the drivers are located... When I asked HTC just for the drivers, I kept on getting pointed to the HTC Sync software.

When you uninstalled HTC Sync, did you also uninstall "HTC Drivers" as well, prior to rebooting and trying a reinstall?

Coming from blackberry, the software issue and getting this phone hooked up to my computer is very frustrating. I have to say that is about the only thing I miss now after using BB's for 5 or 6 years. Desktop Manager was a nice program...

Ok, it looks like my issue was user error. I called HTC, and all we did was uninstall and reinstall the program, and I followed directions this time, that said to disable my antivirus protection, and now it works fine.
