Stop the HATE / ANDROID USER FRAGMENTATION!!!

I NEVER POST... but after clicking one thread stating why people shouldn't complain about the $10 surcharge for EVO.. and finding nothing but snarky comments instead of real argument towards persuasion... I just had to give my 2 cents. Please top trying to pick sides within sides... its effin' gross...

So in being relatively new to android I have done a ton of research on the intricacies of the OS and all that it can do. What I have found most is that there are more people (majority, not all) trying to sound like know it alls, than there are informative people. People complain about how the OS is getting fragmented but it seems the users are being more so. There is too much animosity amongst people who have pretty much the same phone. Alot of that can be seen with the whole EVO vs Incredible. Even those with Nexus Ones have been found gloating about getting the next OS rev first. Seriously, we all know any facts you want to try to rub in our faces. Heck ALL three phones are HTC and near identical. The average consumer will not take to the platform if they get such a distaste from opinion spewing wannabe techies. People are generally open and trusting in these scenarios and to scoff or think you are somehow better than those, is severely delusional.

As odd as it is, wide adoption is necessary for us if this platform is to grow and be competitive. There is way too much hating going on from one thing to another... I can gather it comes mostly from the bored/lonely/unsocial... but still.. the whole "if you don't know you should return the phone" "nuff said" and so on is just going to make us lose. Just like on blogs, lack of information in comments, and just boasting or bitching is a cop out for people who have nothing worth while to say. I for one don't want the stigma of being douchey assholes if iphone people are the fad followers. Seriously... I love the platform, but if the iphone's for ditzy girls then some of you make android seem like its for angry nerds.

Please consider those you speak to, just because they can't see you doesn't mean you get to be a ****** who wastes all OUR time.

(off topic) I have been on all sorts of forums and its sad enough people touting their different porsches, lexus', and what nots in their tags... but lol phones and the specs in those too?(ok that was a bit of hate;))

And here I thought everything was mello around here. But then too, I'm used to Crackberry forums which are cutthroat.

Anyhoo, there's not much unusual behind the behavior. The majority of people who frequent forums for their favorite gadget always seem to gravitate to the "My gadget is cooler than yours" attitude. That's why I rarely ever click on any link even hinting that the iPhone is being discussed.

Just wait until 3 or 4 weeks after the EVO is released and the next uber device is announced... there'll be a whole new breed of Sneetches comparing bellies.

The OP is right. Apple is the "enemy" here. Android is superior in nearly every way IMO.

But what is going on here is competition which presumably would make hardware manufacturers strive for better equipment and carrier service better in the long run. I don't see how competition among users is useful at all. It's all preference. Evo will be an awesome phone the DI already is.

I think the forum's tone can sometimes be a little civil war-like with the name calling and attacks. Bottom line is, Android runs this thing and we all really, really enjoy it.

Unless your are being ironic, saying things like "apple is the enemy here", only stokes the flames.

Lets all start posting like our mothers are reading our threads.

Then again, i'm no saint, i have lashed out myself at what i deemed rediculous statements.

lol yeah and i dont really mean apples the enemy, i do run Apple products, hell they created the need for Android... but at this moment in time Android has the upper hand in many regards. For that to develop even more, it needs the same nurture for the user from other users, since iphone people get that from Apple themselves (Arguably under only their hardware and provisions, but thats a two sided thing). I dont really play sides, and definitely not in whats supposed to be info-centric discussions.

I just hope the hostile tweaks can calm down and be as into the tech on an inviting level so things like OS fragmentation stop. Android literally has to be user-friendly, so google and their cohorts will have to pick up their efforts now and on going. From only having this a week I could imagine so many people I know with iphones who would just say something like "that's too complicated." Unfortunately Google/HTC does a bad job (marketing, implementing, what have you) of teaching their users, I and people like me, obviously enjoy the research. Unfortunately, when that becomes right of passage, we lose people. I have read of so many people stating their "issues" with Android, yet if only they knew it was resolvable. I love the nerd sides of the phones but can't hate on people who want real information or want to discuss it.

PS I did have two very iphoney friends play with the fone and I was surprised how much they dug it based on speed alone.

actually yes i was being ironic by putting the word enemy in " ".

apple is part of the competition. we're all part of the android bandwagon... no need for evo or incredible factions....

You say this after buying a phone that is essentially an iPhone clone with better specs and a removable battery. I love the Incredible and I dig how open Android is, but you gotta be realistic. The Incredible and Android exist because Apple created a market for them. You don't have to like Apple products, but they're certainly not the enemy. I'm sure there are iPhone users happy that Android is gaining traction. It's called competition. And competition benefits the consumer.

Edit: Just noticed that jayefef mentioned a few posts above that Apple is competition and said he was being ironic by calling them an enemy.

whether you like it or not he does make a valid point, its not like things dont plateau, minus access to software and running games its not like you dont get to do the majority of most things identical on one OS and the other, both mobile and desktop.

People "expect" certain things like pinch to zoom, touch screen, nice esthetic and all that stuff I am sure you are "used" to.
