Question about audio line noise with headphones

Haven't been around these parts in awhile, but news of the update brought me back. I have a question about an issue I've had since day 1, but always just kind of accepted. When I listen with headphones to podcasts, music, etc. I get weird signal noise. It's most noticeable when listening to podcasts/talk as there is lots of room to hear the noise on the line. It's like low little hums, "chirps," not totally sure how to describe it. Just not a clean, clear silence when there should be silence. I've used different headphones, definitely not anything there. I'm wondering if this is a known issue, a problem with some handsets, fixable, etc.?

Nope, it's not just when streaming, it's downloaded shows, too. I'm something of an audiophile, and have a lot of experience with different devices, headphones, headphone amps, etc. and I can tell this seems to be an issue with the Eris itself. I just can't tell if it's related to the hardware of the phone's audio processor, or the headphone jack, or something else. If this is a common issue, then I will get over it, but if not, I'd want to try swapping for a new one at Verizon.

I use my Eris a lot for music, audiobooks, podcasts, streaming - both via bluetooth and via the headphone jack into headphones or "aux in" in the car or home system.

I have found the jack to be noisy - I think it's poorly wired/connected. But it's just the static-y noise you expect from a crappy jack. No other noise.

My main complaint is the music player skipping/mini-pausing. I've tried a few music apps and they all seem to do that. It's annoying, but not a noise like you describe!

I'm really happy with my phone and don't want to trade it in. The jack noise stops once the plug is in and stops moving. I decided it was something I can live with.

I thought everyone had the music player skipping issue? I've been shopping for a faster SD card to see if that might help but haven't wanted to spend the $$ yet. Some users seem to think that improves the problem.

I also think the skipping might be the processor multi-tasking. I notice when my daughter is operating the phone and doing lots of stuff it skips more frequently than when I just set the phone down and let it play.

But none of this helps with your noise issue - sorry!

I never listen to music with the Eris, it's one for the worst sounding outputs I've ever heard on a device. I can deal with podcasts though. I've really never experienced any problems with skips either. My main complain is that in the native music app you can hold down Fast forward or rewind to move through a track, only use the imprecise time bar. Which is why I use Doggcatcher usually instead.
