Will you still buy the evo? The $10 charge has seemed to change the minds of a lot of people. I was going to buy 4, and increase my monthly bill from 110 to over 150, but with the new charges the new plan will cost close to 190+ tax.
There is no wimax in my area... I will strictly be 3g.Yes - you're getting something extra (WiMAX). I find it pathetic that cheapskates are bitching about paying a premium for a premium service.
And there are ways around it, if you go digging in the forums... you can get credits.

Ok so after all this pricing discussion I decided to take a look for myself. Apples to Apples comparisons can't be made since all the carriers offer different "extras" (or don't offer the extras sprint does). I am also a current sprint customer so I don't know if there are any other charges that apply to other carriers, as I said I just got the basic info from the different websites.
Verizon:
450 min: $89.98 ($59.99 Talk and Text + $29.99 Data)
900 min: $109.98 ($79.99 Talk and Text + $29.99 Data)
Unlimited: $119.98 ($89.99 Talk and Text + $29.99 Data)
AT&T
450 Min: $89.99 ($39.99 Nation Plan + $30 iPhone Data +$20 Messaging)
900 Min: $109.99 ($59.99 Nation Plan + $30 iPhone Data +$20 Messaging)
Unlimited: $119.99 ($69.99 Nation Plan + $30 iPhone Data +$20 Messaging)
T-Mobile
500 Min: $79.99 ($39.99 Whenever + $30 Smartphone Data + $10 Messaging)
1000 Min: $89.99 ($49.99 Whenever + $30 Smartphone Data + $10 Messaging)
Unlimited: $99.99 (59.99 Whenever + $30 Smartphone Data + $10 Messaging)
Sprint
450 Min: $79.99 ($69.99 Everything Data with Any Mobile Anytime + $10 Evo)
900 Min: $99.99 ($89.99 Everything Data with Any Mobile Anytime + $10 Evo)
Unlimited: $109.00 ($99.99 Simply Everything + $10 Evo)
From these numbers sprint looks to be kind of middle of the pack with Verizon the big winner. ATT kind of suprised me so maybe there is a charge I'm missing. I personally think sprint gives the best overall value for the service they provide. The service where I am is good (plus i will get 4g) so I'm not too upset about the $10.
Here's a post from another thread that seems pretty relevant:
The bolded items for AT&T are changes I made (since he missed texting charges for AT&T).
Evo still pretty cheap comparatively speaking. And I know on the other carriers maybe you could customize it better to your liking and save some money. But my general point is that I think people are having a knee jerk reaction to this whole $10 thing and not being too rational about things when looking at what everybody else offers.
The knee jerk reation is too the charge we are paying and not getting anything in return because 4g is not available to us! So please tell me again why I have to pay extra?

YOU DON'T HAVE TO...stick with your current phone and problem solved.
Man, since when does it make you a cheapskate to balk at paying for something you don't get to use? I'm sure you guys in 4G areas love the idea of everyone else subsidizing your new coverage but the rest of us don't. Of course, that would explain why many of the 4G markets are in politically liberal areas...
No that doesnt solve my problem!
We pay for it too so you aren't subsidizing anything. Don't forget that us "politically liberal areas" subsidize the rest of the country
This is plain old corporate calculation. Someone decided that they will make more money with the $10 charge than they will lose from lost sales. It doesn't get much more capitalist than that.

Thanks for taking the political jab with a grin... Too often people tend to freak out when things dip into that arena. It's nice to converse w/ an adult, not a human talking point.
Where does it EVER say that the extra charge is for 4G? It seems like the extra charge is to remove the soft data caps since they anticipate Evo users consuming more data on their network than any other phone. Similar to AT&T making iPhoners have a special plan.
