Help Uh-oh...what did i do?

I read that before powering on your phone for the first time it is very important that you do a full charge first.

I was putting the battery into my new phone and right as I put it in the phone turned on I turned it off as quickly as possible but it had to go through a few screens first. I know the battery isn't very powerful as it is, but will this affect my phone greatly?

The statement that you need to fully charge your battery before using the device is somewhat opinionated. I happen to have fully charged the battery on my Inc before turning it on (I didn't have time to play with it after I unboxed it). On the other hand, my previous phone (Eris) got taken out of the box and used until the battery was very low before being charged.

Guess what? Battery life on both phones is excellent - and the Eris and Incredible have the same battery.

It can't hurt to fully charge before using the device the first time - but I haven't seen any quantifiable data that you need to. Worst comes to worst... you need to replace the battery sooner rather than later - the phone itself isn't impacted.

It shouldn't affect it greatly.

Also as a battery tip, if you think your battery runs out pretty fast try the "charge full while it's off and you're off to sleep" to increase battery life. It has worked for me~

Hm, same thing happened to me. I put the battery in and the phone turned on. I thought I accidentally pressed something so I quickly powered down the phone so it could charge fully without being on.

The only way I can see damaging the battery would be if it were over or undercharged. Since these batteries have under/overcharge protection, I don't see how that can happen.

I think it's funny how much people freak out. Where does it say anywhere that you should fully charge the phone before turning it on? Man, just plug the phone in, turn it on and have fun with your new purchase...these "steps" everyone takes are ridiculous.

that's what i did! bullcrap I'm paying that much for a phone only to wait to play with it AFTER i already recieved it. plugged that sucker in, turned it on and away i went!

Relax and enjoy mon ami. You could have played with it for an hour and it wouldn't have mattered.

There are a lot of battery myths that are untrue.

The facts I believe to be true is to focus on not storing your battery fully charged or fully drained if possible. If your phone turns off by itself due to low charge, it won't be fully drained yet, but will be if you store it.

But if you aren't using 2 batteries and aren't out in the wilderness for a week, this shouldn't be a problem for you.

Not at all. Li Ion batteries don't have a memory effect. You should be just fine.
