Will this for sure work? and with this method will i be able to flash ANY custom rom?

I can't say for certain, I haven't done it personally. I can only say that we've had at least one person successfully Gold Card since I've been on these forums (although he needed a lot of help), and one person recently who couldn't get it to work.

However, it is, as far as I know, the only way to root when the phone was installed with 1.6 at the factory, and not upgraded to 1.6 from 1.5.

And yes, once rooted (regardless of method) you should be able to load any custom ROM designed for the hardware.

why root? 2.1 coming?

Dude, as much as you were bitching about the speed of the stock ROM, and you trust T-Mo to put out a speedy 2.1?! With SenseUI included?!! lol

I think your talking about me... :)

Let em tell you i would NEVER want any one to go through the pain i had to deal with to get that damn thing rooted. 3 days and a weekend ruined due to the fact i basically killed my phone. I was on vodofone or something like that. Had no calls, no text only the net. It was weird.

I gave up and gave my phone to a friend at work that already rooted his 1.5 mt3g.

He said after 10 minutes he had super d 1.9.3 on it. Said i missed a file. He wont tell me but to be honest i dont care all i know is i have a phone back.

Right now im running something...

Phone says im:

HTC MAgic
Mod Vs: CSDI V4 pro Super@tmel

I dont know what all that is but i had to go to that since super D 1.10 messed up my phone pretty bad.

Over all the switching rom process is easy. Just follow the steps. Now getting to a Rooted mt3g pain in the rear...

Dunno, I used the "one click" method from unlockr.com and was rooted and loading roms in like 15 minutes. I was even able to UNROOT and go back to stock then "reroot.". I have an unlocked T-Mo MT3G on AT&T running Cyno's 2.1.

I can't understand why for some MT3G's it's so difficult and for others so simple. Mine is the "original' T-Mo version I got off eBay to mess around with the O/S.
