What idiot would make a device camera without a flash??

Nah, If I wanted to show off I would have thrown a few of my watches in the shot. ;) :)

The point being that conditions and subject matter being equal, the image from the Tab 4 is not that great, unless you consider that the Tab is $150 and the Nexus 6 was $600 when it was released. So .... for the price the Tab 4 isn't too shabby, but higher end devices are a lot less shabby.

The exposure options on the Tab 4 seem to be limited. I tried both with the stock app and the Vignette app. When you increase the sensor sensitivity (ISO) it simply blows out the exposure. And the artifacts are pretty obvious.

This is in a relatively well lit room with no flash and a median sensitivity.

Here is the same shot with my Nexus 6, same lighting, no flash.

And speaking of cameras, I still have this ...

I still have an Asihi Pentax from the same era, plus the lenses.

I have all sorts of nice camears, from DSLRs to higher end point and shoots.

A few tips. Indoor photos actually look better if you can avoid flash. Indoor flash usually results in the deer in the headights look with dark backgrounds. Adjust ISO and hold camera steady for better images.

Outdoor photos with bright sunlight often look better with flash. Fills in all the harsh shadows in faces.

I prefer to use a dedicated camera on vacations.

We were in Arches NP in Utah waiting for dark to set up telescope. A photography club came into the area, set up their tripods and did long exposures of the rocks with no flash. I think they hit every overlook with this technique.

Long exposures gives nice star trails.

I've done long exposures with an infrared filter.
