What's the best strategy for buying this phone in-store next week?

Long story short, my Dad gets a discount on monthly data plans on VZW through his job, so I don't want to order the Incredible online or by mail because it would be a hassle to set up the contract that way. And after reading other forums people are having a ton of problems with finding when their orders will arrive, canceling credit card billing, etc.

So next week I'm coming home from school, my current phone is broken, and I need a new phone before I start a new job on the week of the 24th.

If I went into one of my four local Verizon stores on Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday, what are some tips to get the phone in-store? Are there any chances of finding one or advice you guys could offer on getting employees to pull strings?

As far as I know they have NONE in any store in the US.
All orders made in store are being shipped out on or before the first of June.

If you need it by the 24th, I would order ASAP and pray you get it in time.

I ordered mine on may 10th and they said I will get it ON OR BEFORE may 29th. may people have been getting it way before the day they were told, but you should definitely allow padding in your order and need by dates.

I got my phone yesterday without having to order it.

I went to Best Buy's website, and searched nearby areas. There were a couple stores that had atleast one Incredible. I tried to order it for instore pickup, but ran into a problem. I called Best Buy and the lady couldnt complete the order for me, but she did call that particular store and had them hold it for me for a couple hours.

I had previously tried to order the phone from Amazon, but just received an email stating it wouldnt ship till about June. I have since canceled that order, of course.

I dont know what area of the country you live in and how many Best Buys are around, or how far you may be willing to drive, but check out their site and input cities youd be willing to go to, and see if they have any. Then attempt to order for instore pick up or call them and see if theyll hold it for you.

After reading this article on msnbc.com, I might order online if I were you!

This is quoted from the article...

"The executive would not give current-quarter mobile subscriber estimates for Verizon Wireless, the biggest U.S. mobile service provider, a venture of Verizon Communications and Vodafone Group Plc. But he said there are "plenty of sales to be had" on some consumer devices.

In particular, McAdam said Verizon is unable to keep up with strong demand for the Droid Incredible smartphone from HTC, due in part to component shortages such as the advanced screens made by Samsung Electronics.

Verizon sold 100,000 of the phones, which run Google's Android software, in the first two days after launch in late April and is now mostly restricted to online sales because it cannot keep the phones on store shelves, he said.

The Incredible would "definitely outsell" the Motorola Droid if it didn't have supply constraints, McAdam said. "When a shipment gets to a store now, it's gone in a matter of hours," he said. "We've had to pull way back ... Right now supply is a big problem."

This is the article in its entirety regarding Verizon and Android Tablets

You need to find out when "the truck comes" or when they get their phones in. Then show up that day and hope you get lucky. Otherwise I would order one online. It won't make a difference with your contract and discount. You either have the discount on your account or you don't, and that won't change if you get one online or in store. I have a 22% discount off of plans, and 25% off accessories through work, and once it's applied to your account it's there either way.

When I put in for my discount, I was informed that it could take 2-3 billing cycles to post on my verizon bill. Ordering online really won't matter if the discount could take that long anyway. I put in the request for the discount online, they sent an e-mail to my work e-mail and I clicked a link to confirm... no hassle whatsoever.

I bought mine from Best Buy when it came out. I think getting it from them is best because they forgo the rebate and give you the savings automatically. For me, I called around my local stores and asked if they had any in stock. The guy was nice enough to "hold" one for me until the end of the day. This way you have some insurance that you will get the phone. This depends however.
