Please share your discoveries.

Loaded the leaked 2.1 last night (not rooted).... So far its pretty nice. However, here are some minor problems or should I say continued pre-existing problems I had with 1.5.

Negative(s)

1) I still do not have voice dialing via bluetooth
2) Still unable to incorporate my Outlook Email account (work email) to the Hero.
3) Still lag time placing a call via widget.
4) Can not recover Documents To Go (paid) app.

Positive(s)

1) Smooth or snappier responce
2) An improved Android Market
3) New look and feel regarding widgets and basic phone setup
4) Works great with "Better Keyboard" app.
5) Works great with "Handcent" app.
6) I now have Google Nav.
7) Improved Camera and settings (though I have re-installed XF Camera)
8) GPS and Google Nav. work good and accurate.
9) So far in and out calls (talk) is clear (However, I never had a voice/sound quality problem prior to 2.1).

Well, I am still playing with my phone. If anyone has any questions just ask. But so far it is pretty cool. Oh' and just a hint to those of us (like me) who are new to the Hero; put all your contacts under "Google" not "Phone". Google does not recognize any contacts listed under "Phone" so it wont sync them with your Google account. I learned the hard way, spent 2 1/2 hours this morning re inserting all my contacts....lol

tells you how to change the contacts from "phone" to "google". I used the app a while ago when I first entered all my contacts, it worked perfectly. I figured saving you (or anyone else) the time of re entering them next time might be appreciated.

For those who don't want to read through everything, the app is called contactsync.

I recently found a youtube video that walked me through how to root ans install the Damage Control ROM on my hero. LOVED IT, Awesome.
Then 2 days later i felt greedy and stupidly installed the Sprint 2.1 leak, and I am very disappointed. Many of the apps I found and love are no longer available, The voice to text is gone, and it is slower and less smooth that the Damage Control.
I want to reinstall the Damage Control ROM but the video is now gone and I can not seem to get it rooted and installed after 3 tries.

Sorry, man, you can't. The new 2.1 RUU is a one way street. You cannot go back to 1.56 and you cannot root. You will have to wait until someone hacks a new exploit - may be days, weeks, never.

BUT, if you are talking about the earlier, first 2.1 leak, then it is already rooted and you can flash a recovery image into it. Depends on which 2.1 leak you have.

If you are missing protected apps on the Marketplace, that's because this 2.1 release has not been recognized by it. Just wait a few days (ha!) until Sprint officially lets out its update.

Has anyone checked the status of Sprint Navigation? Is it working?

Has anyone installed the XDA Keyboard with Voice to Text ability yet?

Yes, Sprint Nav seems to work fine, as does Google Nav.

I did try a keyboard from XDA and yes, the voice input works. I uninstalled it, however, because it was taking up around 6MB of memory. I'm not sure I installed the proper xda keyboard, but it did have voice input working.

Also, Handcent can now read your text messages to you, which is cool.

Seems like all the voice input/speech-to-text hooks are included in this ROM, but the built-in keyboard does not support it.

Is there a way to verify which leaked root I have?
