HTC Hero to get Android 2.0

Heh, yep, I saw that too but it's not really an official announcement. It wouldn't be the first time a customer services department has been spouting misinformation. To be fair to HTC though, their customer services have been great in my experience.
The idea to skip 1.6 makes sense. No point messing with upgrading an earlier version to have to upgrade again later.

If this is true then it's fantastic news - i'm sure that like many other companies there is a limited (though hopefully still quite large) 'support budget' for the hero. Good to see work concentrated on providing a major update rather than a point release that doesnt really deliver much improvement from a user point of view.

I mean, yeah we'll have to wait a while longer for the new marketplace, but with websites like androlib out there, who really needs it?

I agree, there is little in 1.6 to excite me, especially if 2.0 is arriving within a couple of months.
